The mayor transfers to the CHS the situation of the Mar Menor, the cleaning of the ramblas and the farmers' concerns about the drought (05/09/2018)

The mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, met this morning with the new president of the Hydrographic Confederation of Segura, Mario Urrea, to transfer questions of importance to the municipality such as the situation of the Mar Menor and the cleaning of the ravines, as well as the concerns of the farmers of the Region of Campo de Cartagena

The mayor thanked in previous statements to the meeting, the "prompt response" that the president of the CHS has given his citation, as well as the sensitivity he has shown to the needs of the municipality.

Castejón has advanced some of the most important issues that farmers in the Campo de Cartagena region moved to him in a meeting that took place on August 28 at the Consistorial Palace.

The first issue that Ana Belén Castejón has transferred to Urrea has been the report made by the Polytechnic University of Cartagena in collaboration with agrarian organizations on sustainable agriculture, specifically, on the denitrification of groundwater.

Also, the mayor has deepened the cleanliness of the channels of the ramblas, a question that has been considered "fundamental" for the municipality in the face of possible episodes of cold drop and the celebration of Carthaginians and Romans, whose camp is located next to the Rambla de Benipila.

"We are decorating the city for some celebrations that have the denomination of International Tourist Interest", he explained, at the same time he has emphasized the importance of cleaning the boulevards and that everything is in the best security conditions.

In this sense, the president of the CHS has confirmed that this week will be issued the necessary permits for the cleanup to be carried out immediately.

The municipal boulevards that require permits from the Confederation are Rambla del Miedo, Las Matildes, Rambla Ponce, Rambla de las Caveas, Rambla de la Carrasquilla, Rambla de Valdelentisco, Rambla de El Albujón, Rambla del Hondón and Rambla de Benipila.

With regard to the ramblas, in addition, Urrea has analyzed together with Castejón which are the priority points to act on them as soon as possible and avoid setbacks in the event of torrential rains.

The mayor has also moved the concern shown by farmers in relation to drought wells that remain closed and whose reopening could minimize the impact of the drought in the Campo de Cartagena.

Finally, Castejón has shown his satisfaction to put on the table questions that had long been unresolved and the importance of maintaining a close relationship with the current president of the CHS, "since we need him to advance on transcendental issues on water and agriculture" .

The president of the CHS has conveyed to the mayor that she understands the magnitude of the socio-economic impact that is derived from the situation of the Mar Menor and some wadis in Cartagena, and has committed to analyze in detail each case.
