The new noise map of the municipality is exposed until mid-September (03/09/2018)

The main urban agglomeration of the municipality of Cartagena, with an area of around 23 square kilometers including the historic area and the most populated suburbs, constitutes the study area of the new Strategic Noise Map of the city, a document recently approved by the Board of Local Government and published on August 17 in the BORM, and which is in public information period for a period of one month.

In this way, citizens can consult the documentation until September 17 in the dependencies of the Department of Environment, on the third floor of the administrative building of San Miguel, and present the allegations they deem appropriate.

The study specifies the neighborhoods, apart from the old town, where the population and main sources of noise are mainly concentrated, among which are the Ensanche, Virgen de la Caridad, Los Dolores, El Bohío, Barriada Hispanoamérica, Fuente Cubas , San José Obrero, San Antón, Barriada Cuatro Santos, Urbanization Mediterranean, New Cartagena, Neighborhood of La Concepción, Torreciega, Santa Lucía, Barrio Peral, José María de La Puerta, San Felix, New Cartagena Urbanization, New Santa Ana Urbanization and La Water trough

The total number of inhabitants residing in the urban agglomeration is of 151.887.

With regard to the sources of noise that have been taken as the basis of the study, it is worth highlighting the road traffic, which continues to constitute, as was evident in the previous noise map of 2012, the most important and widespread source of the municipality of Cartagena and the one that most affects the population, followed by railway traffic or industrial noise.

Air traffic does not even leave an acoustic mark.

Two documents made by the City Council highlight the lines of action in this regard, on the one hand the Plan of Action against Noise (PAR) corresponding to MER 2012, approved definitively by the Local Government Board in May 2017, being published in the BORM on July 21, 2017;

and the Strategic Mobility Plan M17 of the Municipality of Cartagena, prepared in May 2017 by the Technical Unit of the General Directorate of Infrastructures in the area of Sustainable Development, and in which the actions of the coming years are detailed and classified.

We must remember that the fundamental objective of a plan of action against noise (PAR) is to reduce the number of people exposed to noise levels that exceed the established objectives, therefore, this action, which establishes strategic lines for municipal management of noise, the reduction of the noise emission of road traffic and the reduction in the propagation of said noise, will result in a benefit for the neighbors.
