Cartagena firefighters rescue two young people who were disoriented at night in the mount Porpuz (26/08/2018)

Firefighters of the Fire and Rescue Extinction Service (SEIS) of the City of Cartagena restrained last night, around 23:45 hours, two girls of about 25 years of age who had been disoriented when they made an excursion in the mountain Porpuz de Escombreras.

The two young women, who did not know the area, began the ascent at the end of the afternoon by the via ferrata that accesses the top of this peculiar and pointed head.

The via ferrata is a kind of open path in the rock based on iron stairs, tírolinas or simply equipped with cables to ensure, so that you can climb certain parts of the mountain where otherwise would be impossible.

The girls miscalculated the time and the night surprised them when they reached the top, not having lanterns, so they became disoriented and could not find the path back

At about 10:51 p.m., the firefighters were notified, and they managed to locate them an hour later, in good condition, although somewhat nervous and tired.

TIPS FOR THE PROLIFERATION OF THIS TYPE OF RESCATES

From the fire service has been warned of the danger involved in making this type of excursions or hikers walks to the fall of the afternoon by people without experience, and more on via ferratas that seem easy to travel, as they are not exempt from risks, not only by the arrival of the night but also by the misuse of the insurance equipment or simply falling or rockfall.

During the summer, firefighters have carried out about half a dozen interventions of this type, which has led them to offer the following tips to avoid new incidents:

The summer season is conducive to go for walks or activities in the mountains but the high temperatures make it only possible during the first hours of the day or at the end of the afternoon.

Opting for the second option is usually the most common, but it has added risks.

The days begin to become shorter and the not knowing well the route or the duration of the activity, can play a trick on us.

For this reason, whenever we go to the mountain near sunset, it is recommended to take into account the following:

Be well informed about the route or activity that will be carried out, taking into account the hours of light available and the time necessary to carry it out.

Carry enough water and food in the backpack, as well as some kind of frontal lighting system, suitable clothes and footwear and mobile with the battery charged.

To the mountain always leave accompanied or, otherwise, warn someone of the route to follow and the expected time of arrival in case something happens.

Keep in mind that a slight twist can immobilize you for hours.

If this type of activity is carried out frequently, it is recommended to have a federal license to be covered in case of ACCIDENT.

Finally, remember that the imprudence not only endanger the life of the hiker but the rescuers who have to go to help, in addition to generating a large expense to the administration.

Therefore, please always practice sport in a responsible manner.
