A UPCT student designs a spiritual retreat center for all religions for Caravaca (23/08/2018)

A multi-faith center with a flower shape to house up to ten petals spaces of prayer, study and spiritual retreat of other religions is the proposal with which the degree in Architecture at the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT) has been completed by Murcian student Ana Ruiz Carreño, which aims to respond to the growing multicultural diversity.

"Ignorance of other cultures and religions generates insecurity, because only their most extreme expressions reach us," reasons the young architect, who proposes this property as a place for reflection, debate and respect among those who have different beliefs.

Far from the accelerated urban rhythms, the center would be located in the caravaqueño abandoned village of Retamalejo, very close to the autonomous border with Andalusia, seeking also to reverse the progressive abandonment of rural areas.

"It would be interesting if a new itinerary of the Vera Cruz passed through the center," suggests the student of the School of Architecture and Building.

Urban gardens for self-consumption are also part of the complex, which is thinking to accommodate the ten confessions that have places of worship in the Region of Murcia: Catholics, Muslims, evangelists, Jehovah's Witnesses, Orthodox, Buddhists, Adventists, Sikhs, Mormons and followers of the Baha'i faith.
