Citizens wants to install free solar chargers for mobile devices in the public spaces of Cartagena (05/08/2018)

- The equipment that has already been installed in many other Spanish cities are fully autonomous by having a solar panel on the 30W sunshade and an accumulation battery of 18Ah, which guarantees the autonomy of the service 24 hours a day

- "These recharging points for squares and transited areas will reinforce the tourist attraction of our municipality and offer a modern, updated and innovative image of Cartagena", underlines Citizen's spokesperson, Manuel Padín.

Citizens defend the need to adapt to the enormous technological changes present and future and promote measures according to the way in which new devices influence our lives.

Therefore, orange training will propose the installation of free solar chargers for mobile phones, tablets and other devices, and thus facilitate that Cartagena and tourists can recharge their terminals in the main public spaces of the municipality.

"Citizens often feel the need to share moments and experiences, especially in a city like Cartagena where neighbors and visitors make a lot of life in its streets, its terraces and its historical and cultural enclaves." We also felt the need to look for nearby businesses, consult maps and many other issues that we solve through our mobile devices The initiative that we will soon take to plenary solves part of a recurrent problem that we face with the use of these terminals: the lack of battery, "explains the spokesman for Citizens in Cartagena, Manuel Padín.

The equipment that has already been installed in many other Spanish cities are fully autonomous by having a solar panel on the 30W sunshade and an accumulation battery of 18Ah, which guarantees the autonomy of the service 24 hours a day.

These charging points for mobile devices are a key element of the urban furniture of the Smart Cities that help to revitalize the squares and turn them into a meeting place for neighbors and tourists.

"Through this measure we intend to reinforce the tourist attraction of our municipality and offer a modern, updated and innovative image of Cartagena," says Manuel Padín.

The cost of these equipments is around 2,000 euros per unit and they do not require any additional expense since they are totally autonomous devices that work with the solar energy obtained through the plates and stored in batteries.

"In the cities that already have this installed, we have verified that it has been done thanks to agreements of companies that operate in the territory, I do not think it is complicated to do it in Cartagena," says Padín.

The recharging points that already exist in cities such as Zamora or Leon have four USB ports so that any passerby can connect their mobile phone, their tablet or any other device that requires their use.

"The design of the equipment also allows them to be easily integrated into any urban space," the orange spokesman concludes.

Project and plans without investment

"When this City Council presents, announces a plan or a project in Cartagena is to start shaking," said Manuel Padin in reference to the plans announced by PSOE and MC since 2015 as the Strategic Plan 'M17', or the master plan of Smart City;

"What do we know about them?" Padín asks, recalling that they contained dozens of measures "to establish a recharging network for electric vehicles, smart road signs, bike lanes, free Wi-Fi spaces, dissuasive car parks, bicycle rentals, more areas pedestrian, more zones 30, fleet of clean municipal vehicles ... but that little or nothing has been done ".

"In Cartagena, writing a project really means informing citizens of the issues that do not intend to invest a single euro for years, as the drug addiction plan two years ago," said the spokesman for Cs.
