The concert "Habaneras in Cabo de Palos" returns to the esplanade of the Lighthouse (18/07/2018)

The Polyphonic Choir Carthagonova, with the collaboration of the City of Cartagena, will offer this Saturday, July 21, at 22:30 hours, the traditional concert of "Habaneras in Cabo de Palos" in the esplanade of the lighthouse of this coastal town.

The Polyphonic Choir Carthagonova, which this year celebrated the 40th anniversary of its foundation, directed by Pedro Andrés García and in its desire to channel the cultural movement of the city through choral singing, has organized, one more year, the concert "Habaneras of Cabo de Palos ", which this year celebrates its twenty-ninth edition.

We must go back to the year 1990 to find the beginning of this traditional summer concert.

At the foot of the lighthouse, on the steps that give access to the house of the lighthouse keeper, in a simple way, without great complications of lights or loudspeakers and, yes, in an imposing scenario that included a full moon illuminating the night, the three first editions of the "Concierto a la Luna Llena de Agosto", as it was called in these early times.

The then Director of the Polyphonic Choir Carthagonova, José Espinosa Pérez, after reading a poetry he had composed in which he highlighted the image of the lighthouse as guardian of the Mediterranean, he committed himself before the audience to compose the music so that the poem would become in a "habanera" dedicated to this town.

In August of 1991 it was released with great success "Cabo de Palos", a piece of music that has become essential in each of the editions of this concert.

Work, which together with the "Marine Flower" with lyrics and music by Dr. Lastra, harmonized for four voices by Maestro Espinosa, forms the final touch of all the concerts.

GROUPS INVITED TO THE XXIX EDITION OF THE CONCERT

It is traditional in each edition to share the stage with another group from the Region or Region, so this time the guests will be:

The Coral Our Mrs. of the Asunción de Los Alcázares, directed by Juan Diego Rosique Rodríguez.

The Santiago Apóstol Choir of Santiago de la Ribera, directed by Silvia de Teresa Navarro.

The Trovera Association José Mª Marín de Cartagena with the troupes Juan Santos Contreras (El Baranda), José Martínez Sánchez (The Taxi Driver), Juan José Gracias (El Parra) and Andrés Marchán Rosillo.

The Cantaores Isabel Nicolás and Juan Ramón Molina and the Guitarist Juan Martínez Solano (El Mergo).

The round-trip sea songs - as they are known to the habaneras - that choirs will play, together with the performances of the trovero group, will give rise to an unforgettable musical spectacle in an incomparable setting, such as the Cabo de Palos lighthouse.

This concert, is added to the activities that are being held in areas of our coast and will take place on Saturday, July 21 at 22:30 hours, on the parking lot of Faro.
