Citizens ask the City Council to put in value the remains of the Wall of Felipe V that were found in 2015 (11/07/2018)

- "After an investment of 30,000 euros, the work of excavation and cleaning have been completed but the plans of the local executive to value this wall, as well as the maintenance and maintenance work to which the canvas is being subjected, are unknown. of this wall that was built between the end of the 17th century and the beginning of the 18th century ", says the Councilor for Citizens in Cartagena, Ana Rama

- Next to the wall was also found a Civil War shelter in very good condition "that should be visited so that Cartagena and visitors can know and enjoy that piece of history," says Rama

Citizens ask the City Council not to forget the canvas of the Wall of Felipe V and the shelter of the Civil War, which were found at the end of 2015 in front of the Artillery Park and Plaza López Pinto in Cartagena, and which have not yet been put in value.

The events occurred in December 2015 when a wall erected between the end of the 17th century and the beginning of the 18th century was discovered, granting even more historical and cultural value to the city of Cartagena.

Along with the remains of this wall of Philip V or Wall of 1721, archaeologists also found a refuge from the Civil War preserved, according to experts, in very good condition.

The then municipal coordinator of Historical Heritage, Carmen Berrocal, said, according to the media, that it was planned to do a project of comprehensive action of the whole, as well as study the musealization and redevelopment of the environment.

Since then, they have invested, according to published information, 30,000 euros to excavate and discover all the western bulwark of the Wall of Philip V, as well as to condition and clean the Civil War shelter, with the ultimate goal, allegedly, of To value the findings and ensure their correct conservation.

"More than two years after these remains saw the light, and with an expense of 30,000 euros, the excavation and cleaning work have been completed but the plans of the local Executive or his search for investments to value both are unknown. the wall as the refuge, "says the mayor of Ciudadanos, Ana Rama.

The orange formation will ask at the next plenary session to the mayor of Cartagena for the maintenance to which the canvas of the wall is being submitted, as well as for the actions that the local Executive contemplates to put in value these remains.

Citizens Cartagena will also ask the socialist government team not to underestimate the finding and show its decision when it comes to promoting the right project to conserve the remains and contribute to increasing the great cultural and historical value that the city of Cartagena accumulates.

"In 2016, from Cs Cartagena we asked twice in Plenary for the status of the project of integral action, as well as for the conservation measures and protection of the findings, but it seems that this issue has been left behind, and this greatly harms the the city of Cartagena ", regrets the councilor of Cs, Ana Rama.

Roman Amphitheater and Cultural Landscape of Humanity

On the other hand, Citizens remember that during this 2018 are only carrying out excavation work, consolidation and conservation in the Roman Amphitheater thanks to the amendment (200,000 euros) to the municipal budgets last year that the orange training included for the works of consolidation of the Plaza de Toros as a step prior to the recovery of the Roman Amphitheater.

Being aware of the benefit that the declaration of Cultural Landscape of Humanity would have for the city of Cartagena, Citizens also got this year an amendment to the General Budgets of the State to value the batteries of the coast of Cartagena for one million euros.
