MC will demand that the 'EuroVelo' route runs through the Comarca of Cartagena and does not leave the Mediterranean, as the regional government claims (27/06/2018)

The Executive of Lopez Miras plans to dodge Cartagena in the natural layout of the 'Mediterranean Route'

A few days ago we learned that the regional government, through the Ministry of Tourism and Culture, has taken the decision to promote the eighth route 'EuroVelo' deviating from its natural course and obviating, once again, Cartagena and the rest of municipalities coastal areas of our Region.

'Route of the Mediterranean'

The 'Mediterranean Route' is integrated into the long-distance network 'EuroVelo'.

The one of the Mediterranean is the eighth of the routes that includes from Cádiz to Athens (almost 5.900 kilometers).

The idea of the regional government to discriminate against Cartagena is to skip the natural flow of the sea that gives its name to the route, an issue that will only happen in the section that affects our region.

Given these facts, the secretary general and spokesman of the MC Cartagena municipal group, José López, has denounced "a new evidence of the countless nonsense perpetrated, in one way or another from the regional government in Murcia, to join others such as the highway of the Mediterranean or the Mediterranean Corridor, infrastructures that ignore Cartagena and Comarca, main tourist and industrial pole of the Region ".

'EuroVelo'

The 'EuroVelo' network is an ambitious initiative promoted by the European Cyclists' Federation that structures a total of 15 routes that cross the European continent and that offer beauty, tourism, tranquility and safety to cyclists who enjoy these routes.

An important tourist element if we take into consideration the data issued by this Federation.

And is that a study commissioned in 2012 by the European Parliament in a total of 2,300 million trips made by cyclists within Europe.

More than 44,000 million euros per year generate this activity.

For example, stays made on bicycle trips cause an annual impact of more than 9,000 million euros.

Some data that reveal what could be a "huge damage to our region", as Lopez has meant.

"Nothing stops the executioners of Cartagena in their infinite arrogance, even able to skip the natural channel of the Mediterranean Sea."

"It is a train that we can lose because of the centralist and discriminatory policies we have denounced for years."

"It is not surprising, the same councilor who confuses the Roman Amphitheater of Cartagena with our Theater to compare it with the Colosseum in Rome, does not know or cares about Cartagena, commits the clumsiness of not knowing what she is talking about but, yes, complies with the guidelines inherent in his position, highlighted by his bosses, nothing for Cartagena and disguises what you can. "

MC, actions to remedy a new outrage

"On our part, nothing has changed, we denounce the attempts of isolation and time proves us right, in this case, we will draw the attention of the European Federation that coordinates this important project and we will let you know that the regional government that we suffer wants to use." EuroVelo 'to take the route away from its natural route, next to the Mediterranean Sea, depriving it of municipalities that have great tourist, patrimonial and gastronomic wealth to offer ", continued the Cartagena leader.

It has ended announced that "for this, we will request that an expert from the Federation come to the Region so that no one deceives them and can verify for themselves that the natural route runs along paths other than those intended by the Autonomous Community. so that, from the City of Cartagena, as well as from the Regional Assembly, we fight to get to our city the roads and rails, the public roads and the wheels required by the growing tourism that wants to know Cartagena ".
