Cartagena will celebrate its tenth edition of EnorgulleCT (20/06/2018)

The raising in the Palace of the rainbow flags, next to the collective TRANS, or the manifestation of the Pride by the main streets of the center, are some of the acts that will give these days visibility to the groups that fight for the rights of gays, lesbians, transsexuals and bisexuals.

All these activities are part of EnorgulleCT 2018, which will start on Thursday, June 21, and will continue until June 30.

The Councilor for Youth and Education, David Martínez, together with Alberto Álba and Daniel Guirao, education coordinator and activist, respectively, of the GALACTYCO Collective have offered this Wednesday, June 20, all the details of the EnorgulleCT 2018 program.

David Martinez has stated, in this presentation, that although "society begins to change, there is still much to be done".

As an example of the work that still remains, the mayor has narrated the acts of vandalism in several banks of the city, painted by the Department of Equality with the colors of the TRANS and Gay flags, "these acts show us that there is still much to do and There is still a lot to advance, education I think is the way to do it ".

In addition, the mayor has said that they are acts that have been reported to the local police, "they have to pursue these vandalism, because they are acts of homophobia and hate this group."

Martinez has clarified that "although some laws have been created in this regard, now it is necessary to ensure that they are met." He has also expressed his intention to continue working to get more support so that Cartagena is much fairer and turn it into a LGBTI friendly city.

On the other hand, Alberto Álba explained that the progress made by the LGBTI community in Spain is the result of a long journey that has involved all citizens and would not be understood without the celebration of the 'Pride', the engine of visibility and transformation of society.

Therefore, "this year we want to pay homage to those people who took the first step 40 years ago, transsexuals".

EnorgulleCT 2018 will start on June 21 and will last until the 30th of the same month, although for a few days you can already see signs of the arrival of the Pride.

On the same day, the rainbow flag and the TRANS collective will be hoisted on the masts of the Town Hall, an act that will be attended by members of the Municipal Corporation and also by the organizing entity.

The city of Cartagena was the first city in the Region to celebrate the Pride Festival as an act of vindication and visibility of these groups.

In this new edition of the EnorgulleCT we will continue that trajectory that began 10 years ago by hosting a complete program of activities aimed at all kinds of audiences.

According to the activist of the GALACTYCO Collective, Daniel Guirao, "as usual, we will mix culture and party".

Other activities, prelude to the Gala of the Cartagena Pride, will be the screening of documentaries with the collaboration of Cartagena Piensa, theme parties, a new edition of the Family Festival that this year will be held in the Rafael de la Cerda Park (at that more than a hundred people, including families from all points of the regional geography, have already confirmed their attendance), several talks, some of them organized by the Women's International Stoppage (PIM), a play and the presentation of a study on homosexuality in Ancient Greece.
