The UCAM organizes in Cartagena an exhibition and a conference on the founding director of the Red Cross Hospital in the city (19/06/2018)

The Campus of Los Dolores hosts tomorrow the presentation of the Chair of History of Medicine with three lectures on Dr. Angel Sanchez de Val Real, who was a member of the National Academy of Medicine, Spanish Medical-Surgical Academy and the Spanish Society of Urology.

Until the end of July you can visit a sample of surgical and sanitary material, as well as books on medicine from the eighteenth, nineteenth and twentieth centuries.

The new Chair of History of Medicine at the San Antonio Catholic University, led by José López, doctor from Cartagena, will hold its first act tomorrow, Wednesday, June 20 at 5:00 p.m. on the Campus of Los Dolores, with a day dedicated to one of the great doctors of the Region, Dr. Ángel Sánchez de Val, who practiced in Cartagena until his death in 1931.

Specifically, after the presentation of this Chair by the Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences of the UCAM, Jerónimo Lajara, there will be three presentations on the figure of Dr. Ángel Sánchez de Val, who founded and directed the Hospital de la Cruz Red in Cartagena and was a member of the most important medical institutions of the time such as the Royal National Academy of Medicine, Spanish Medical-Surgical Academy, Spanish Society of Urology, etc., as well as a great scholar of medicine and hygiene, publishing more of fifty works in specialized national and international books and journals.

Professor Francisco Franco contextualized the time in which he lived this doctor, with the presentation 'Cartagena 1882-1936: Modernism to the Vanguards', after which José López explain the connection of said doctor with the port city, and Angel Julio Huertas will talk about the painting of Vicente Ros, author of the portrait of Sánchez del Val that his heirs have donated to the UCAM.

Then, a representative exhibition of the sanitary and surgical material, as well as of the books, that were property of this surgeon, who also treated venereal and syphilis, and for whose work in this area, will be inaugurated in these same facilities of the Catholic University in Los Dolores. the flu epidemic of 1918 was awarded.
