The Roman Theater will host a course on communication and new technologies applied to cultural heritage (19/06/2018)

The Museum of the Roman Theater, whose foundation has the Autonomous Community, the City of Cartagena and the Cajamurcia Foundation as patrons, will host from July 16 to 18 the course 'Dissemination, communication and new technologies applied to cultural heritage', part of of the summer training offer of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT).

The use of new technological resources is giving rise to new experiences and also a new type of audience that interacts and participates in the improvement of the heritage space.

Thus, digital technologies are becoming an indispensable tool for the dissemination of heritage, so that in cultural management the role of the visitor as a transmitter of content and diffuser of the concept of open, accessible and participative entity has more and more weight.

The general director of Cultural Goods, Juan Antonio Lorca, said that "new technologies are a clear tool for improvement for the enhancement of cultural heritage by the administrations, since they allow improving accessibility, understanding and enjoyment on the part of the citizens".

In this regard, he highlighted "the commitment of the Museum of the Roman Theater to launch new initiatives based for example on virtual reality, the last major bet to 'travel' in time of what is the most visited museum in the Region."

The lectures and round tables programmed within the course will be complemented with a visit with virtual glasses to the Roman Theater and a sample of the application of virtual reality to the museum tours as the Barrio del Foro de Cartagena.

In the European Year of Cultural Heritage, this course also aims to deepen the importance of communication management when it comes to disseminating historical, archaeological and heritage knowledge (blogs, portals or multimedia books), as well as in the construction of a proactive heritage where cultural institutions are increasingly involved with visitors.

For this, there will be participants who will narrate initiatives and experiences such as those set in motion by the Prado Museum.

The course schedule will be from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and from 4:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. (25 teaching hours).

More information can be obtained by calling 968 38818 and on the website http://www.upct.es/contenido/cursosverano, where it is also possible to register (70 euros).

Lorca recalled that this activity that will host the Roman Theater of Cartagena "is a new sign of the interest of its leaders to continue collaborating with institutions and organizations, as in this case the UPCT, and helps to expand the programming of cultural activities organized in parallel to the exhibitions, whose number of users increased last year around 40 percent.
