The Route of the Fortresses donates 50,000 euros to the charities of Cartagena (19/06/2018)

The ninth edition of the Route of the Fortresses has donated 50,000 euros to thirty-seven charities that work for social purposes.

The act of delivery of the checks was made this Tuesday, June 19, at the Marine General Infantry School 'Albacete y Fuster' (EIMGAF).

The ceremony was presided over by the mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón and Admiral of Acción Marítima, Vice Admiral Manuel de la Puente Mora-Figueroa.

The Route of the Fortresses was held on April 14 and involved 3,800 runners, having more than 8,000 applications.

The 50,000 euros raised comes from the registration of the participants and the amounts donated by companies, mainly from the Cartagena area.

The event was also attended by representatives of companies, organizations, institutions, groups and individuals who have participated and collaborated in the organization of this test.

At the end of the ceremony, the thirty-seven associations have received, from the mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, and the Admiral of Maritime Action, Vice Admiral Manuel de la Puente Mora-Figueroa, his corresponding check that has oscillated between 2,200 and 800 euros.

Some of the beneficiaries have been: Caritas Diocese of Cartagena, ASIDO Cartagena, the Congregation of the Little Sisters of the Poor or the Pablo Ugarte Association against childhood cancer.

Prior to the donation of the money raised, the organizers have explained the great logistical planning involved in organizing the route, with a distance of 53 kilometers through the most representative castles and fortresses of the city.

It has also made a balance of this latest edition in which athletes from 43 Spanish provinces have participated, which as explained by the organizers "only get the competitions held in big cities."

The test also arouses interest in all age groups, having participants from 18 to 74 years, although the section with more registered is between 30 and 50. To conclude, the organizers have said that despite the Great demand to participate in the test, it is not easy to finish it, they have achieved this year 80 percent of the runners.
