Cartagena Folk consolidates as one of the most important traditional music festivals in the Region (11/06/2018)

Cartagena Folk closes its 9th edition with positive balance, significantly increasing the activities and the public that has gathered during the 4 days of the Festival.

"Although some day has had adverse weather conditions the public has been able to enjoy all the musical, recreational or gastronomic activities that the Department of Culture had scheduled from June 7 to 10" as highlighted by the mayor of Culture, David Martínez Noguera.

The 9th edition of the Festival, recovered in 2016, was inaugurated last Thursday at the Ramón Alonso Luzzy Cultural Center, in charge of one of the most influential folk figures, Carlos Soto, founding member and former member of Celtas Cortos, in front of his project 'Castijazz'.

The Festival moved from Friday June 8 to the Port of Cartagena, in which musical groups such as 'La Musgaña', which celebrated its 30th anniversary, or 'Pan de Capazo', which have been one of the winning groups of this year.

In addition, it was possible to enjoy animation parades with the Banda de Gaitas 'Celticue' or the animated Percussion Group 'D'Akokán', a Craft Market and the Gastronomic Fair with Food Trucks.

Among the performances also highlights the magnificent Levantine DJ 'Boni Pinchamundos', the great success harvested by the groups' Besesarabia' and its powerful Balkan music, 'Oh Brother Hood' with an excellent concert of songs rooted in American folk, and ' Street Wings', another of the groups that most liked starting from Irish Celtic music.

Equally remarkable was the children's show 'Hombre Folkíbero', which made his project a family party with a lot of atmosphere.

"Cartagena Folk has once again brought together proposals for the re-elaboration of traditional music coming from all over Spain and we have tried to make an edition with a varied and quality program, in which established artists share the stage with new young bands.

In this way the public has had the opportunity to discover groups unknown to them, while enjoying artists with a long career behind them.

In 2019 the tenth edition of Cartagena Folk will be held and we will try to continue consolidating the event as one of the most important at a national level ", concluded David Martínez.
