The Association of Official Journalists of the Region of Murcia dedicated its 11th Congress to the role of women in History (04/06/2018)

On Saturday June 2 was held in Cartagena the XI Congress of the Association of Official Journalists of the Region of Murcia, which this time has had as protagonists the women who made history in the Region of Murcia.

The National Museum of Underwater Archeology (ARQUA) hosted the event, which was attended by about a hundred official chroniclers who perform their work in the Region of Murcia.

The mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón and the mayor of Education, Culture and Youth, David Martínez, also attended the event.

The mayor stressed the importance of claiming that women are much more than muses or mere spectators;

at the same time he regretted that the feminine gender has always been relegated to the margins of history.

Castejón stressed the need to deconstruct the collective imaginary that women are muses and men are geniuses;

and he appealed to "empower the muses who never saw their genius recognized".

He also encouraged all "the muses and geniuses" and the "muses and geniuses" to enjoy the congress and to recognize the role "of those women who fought for our Region," he added.

The first part of the congress was given by the four chroniclers of Cartagena: Francisco José Franco, dedicated his speech to the figure of Carmen Conde;

José Sánchez Conesa, spoke about Pilar Juárez;

Luis Miguel Pérez Adán, dedicated his speech to the life of Teresa Arróniz y Boch;

and Juan Ignacio Ferrández, who highlighted Amelia Portela.

Already during the second half of the congress the central axis of the same ran on the memory of all the unknown women of the Region of Murcia, and closed with a special section of the actresses, among which the figure of the Cartagena Celia Escudero stood out , who was one of the best silent film actresses.

This congress highlighted the work of women in the history of the Region and the need to have more parity within the Association of Official Journalists of the Region of Murcia, in which currently there are only two female figures.
