15,000 young people will be able to travel free in interrail in Europe this summer (29/05/2018)

Through the DiscoverEU project, the European Commission will select some 15,000 young enthusiastic 18-year-olds by the end of June 2018 and will provide them with free tickets to travel through the EU during the summer of 2018.

The Department of Youth of the City of Cartagena, from its point Eurodesk, will inform young people of the municipality about the details of this project, so that all those who meet the requirements and are interested in undertaking this trip can do it in the simplest way possible .

This project born from the European Union, based on a proposal from the European Parliament, young Europeans of 18 years can experience the journey, which allows them to take advantage of the freedom of movement in the European Union to discover the diversity of European regions , enjoy its cultural richness, connect with people from all over the continent and finally discover themselves.

The participants, as a general rule, will travel by train.

The landscape of European trains offers a variety of ever changing and infinitely entertaining towns and landscapes that can promote discovery and a better understanding of Europe, its citizens and cultures.

However, to ensure broad access throughout the continent, DiscoverEU will offer, when rail travel is not available, alternative modes of transport, such as buses or ferries.

In exceptional cases, and when other means of transportation are not available, air travel will be allowed.

This will ensure that young people living in remote areas or on the islands also have the opportunity to participate in this initiative.

The selection of applicants will be carried out through an application available on the European Youth Portal.

Applicants must answer 7 questions, which will allow the European Commission to classify applicants.

Applications can be submitted during the two-week application round in June 2018. Youth with special needs (eg, reduced mobility, visual impairments, etc.) will be entitled to receive appropriate additional support.

The application round of the DiscoverEU initiative is open from Tuesday, June 12, 2018 12:00 until Tuesday, June 26, 2018 12:00 through a specific online application form on the European Youth Portal.

All information regarding this extraordinary initiative of the European Union will be available to young people in the municipality in the Eurodesk Point, located in the youth space mobility office of the Youth Council, and in the European Youth Portal.
