Ricardo Segado (MC) promotes the integration of the Cátedra de Flamenco de Cartagena in the Carmen Conde Board (29/05/2018)

The councilor of the Municipal Group MC Cartagena, Ricardo Segado, in his capacity as member of the Board of Trustees of the Carmen Conde Antonio Oliver, promotes the integration of the Cátedra de Flamenco de Cartagena within this Board.

The will of the mayor has been reflected with the request made this morning to the secretary of the municipal autonomous body to require that the agenda of the next ordinary Council includes the analysis and study of that proposal, a document that has also been sent.

This measure would facilitate the Patronato's facilities to welcome the different training actions promoted by the Chair, in addition to the recovery of the 'National Competition of Cante by Cartageneras', allocating in the next fiscal year (2019) a nominative economic item in order to contribute to the development of activities.

Likewise, in his letter, Segado requests the appearance of the president of the 'Cátedra de Flamenco de Cartagena' association, Juan Ruipérez, so that the aforementioned can present the content of the proposal before the Board.

Support for the Cátedra de Flamenco de Cartagena

In the motivation of the document that supports the proposal of Mowing, the Cartagena councilor has contextualized the birth of the 'Cátedra de Flamenco de Cartagena', dated in 1981, "product of the impulse of the singer Antonio Piñana and the writer Carmen Conde, protagonist of the Heritage "

The process was supported by the work of the researcher, biographer and expert in flamenco culture, Juan Ruipérez.

"The fundamental objective was the diffusion of flamenco in general, and the autochthonous cantes of Cartagena in particular", added Ricardo Segado.

In his argument, the councilor of MC addresses the importance of "teaching to ensure that this culture and tradition is not lost".

At the same time, he alludes to the numerous Cartagena people who show concern and interest in flamenco art, "which very few have taken care to perpetuate and spread".

In this regard, he recalled the involvement of other institutions (Junta de Andalucía), to contribute to the aims of the chairs, in contrast to the limited support received by the Cartagena studios of the closest administrations.

Then, it has shown the intention of Carmen Conde and Antonio Piñana to promote the emergence of the Chair within the City of Cartagena, a goal achieved by "framed within the curriculum of the Popular University, operating optimally , although with little help for 37 years ".

He has continued to value the collaboration of the Hespérides Integrated Vocational Training Center to allow the 'Cátedra de Flamenco' association to teach his lessons of flamenco singing, dancing and flamenco there.

At this point, Ricardo Segado has pondered the high professional level of the teachers of the association, all of them "with a very important qualification and an enviable professional career".

To finish, he has reviewed the background of the Cartagena chair, with the 'National Contest of Cantes by Cartageneras', which became "preamble of the initiative and, later, in perfect complement".

He has cited the start of the contest (1964), the date on which they received support that is now non-existent.

The councilor concluded by hoping that, in successive years, "Cartagena will once again welcome the greatness of these contests, something that would contribute a greater boost and institutional recognition to the work done from the Chair."
