The City Council of Cartagena shows its support to the patients of Chron with the reading of a manifesto (22/05/2018)

The City of Cartagena has shown its support to those affected by Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis in Cartagena.

Taking advantage of the fact that the World Day of Intestinal Inflammatory Disease was celebrated on Saturday, May 19, the manifesto was carried out to demand measures that contribute to the improvement of the quality of life of these patients.

The mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, has accompanied on Tuesday, May 22, the members of the delegation in Cartagena of the Association of Crohn's Disease and Ulcerative Colitis (ACCU) among those who were, Diego Miñarro and Juana Madrigal , vice president and spokesperson, respectively, of the association.

The mayor Ana Belén Castejón said, at the ceremony held in the Hall of Reception of the Palace Hall, that the City wanted to show their support and give visibility to this disease "that does not occupy many headlines, nor calls the attention of society, to Although it affects the daily lives of those affected in a decisive way ".

Castejón has stated that supporting Crohn's patients was a pending issue of the City Council since they contacted the municipal government demanding the involvement of the institution last March.

The solidarity support for this disease was requested through a motion proposed by the Citizens group on April 27, 2017, which was approved unanimously in the plenary session of the municipal corporation.

The motion requested the adoption of measures to contribute to the improvement of the quality of life of patients with Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis in Cartagena.

"As a local administration, the closest to the citizen, we assume that commitment, so that last Saturday, May 19, international day of the disease, and taking advantage of the Night of the Museums was illuminated the Consistorial Palace purple", has declared the councilor.

The mayor wanted to read the manifesto for which he has requested the presence of the spokesman of the municipal group Citizens, Manuel Padin, so that together with Diego Miñarro and Juana Madrigal of the Association of Crohn's Disease and Ulcerative Colitis (ACCU) in Cartagena , proceed to disseminate the manifesto composed of ten points.

Many patients are affected by inflammatory bowel disease and other diseases at the same time and, in most cases, they are not recognized any type of disability despite crediting the problems they produce.

Greater support and recognition of the disease in public and private organizations and greater participation of patients in making decisions regarding our rights, well-being and quality of life.
