City council and neighbors agree on the need to improve commuter trains (21/05/2018)

The City of Cartagena and the Federation of Neighborhood Associations of Cartagena and District (FAVCAC) agree on the importance of Cartagena has a good network of commuter trains.

Both are also in agreement on the importance of the involvement of the Port Authority in rail freight infrastructures, in addition, in the same way the two entities converge in that the train station must be maintained in its current location.

The mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, and the councilor of the Sustainable Development Area, Francisco Aznar, held a meeting on Monday, May 21, with representatives of the Federation of Neighborhood Associations of Cartagena and Region, including its vice president , Francisco Rodríguez, to share with them the information about the railway structures in the city.

"I am happy because the Government and the Federation of Neighbors, in the important issues for the growth and development of the municipality, go hand in hand," said Castejón at the end of the meeting.

The mayor has said that both agree on the importance of getting a good rail network commuter that at the discretion of the council, "is the pending issue, and that it will be able to further develop and vertebrando the municipality, territorially speaking, to be better communicated with the region. "

On the arrival of the AVE, the first mayor has said that his arrival will make the city more competitive, but not forgetting the importance of the vicinity.

In this meeting, both entities have also agreed on the importance of the Port Authority being more involved in infrastructures, as far as merchandise is concerned.

"When it comes to goods, the Port Authority is called to lead the issue, and there we will be hand in hand Federation, City Council and Port Authority to defray, and therefore to budget such important action," said Castejon.

The third point in which there is good harmony between the City Council and the FAVCAC has been their coincidence in the importance of maintaining the station in its current location.

The mayor reminded the members of the federation of the commitment acquired and signed before a notary by all the political groups, except the Popular Party, that the political group that obtained the responsibility of governing promised to keep the station in its current location.

Other topics have also been addressed, such as supporting all those ideas that do not strangle the municipality and that allow it to be developed in an orderly, sustainable and sustained manner over time.

Regarding the burial of the AVE, the mayor continues to maintain that "the arrival of the AVE to Cartagena to the current station and with the current route must go underground."

Castejón has also reported that the municipal government will design a publicity and information campaign so as not to confuse the citizen about "the decontamination of Hondón is incompatible with the burial of the AVE".

For his part, the vice president of the FAVCAC, Francisco Rodríguez, has exposed the point of view of the federation on the AVE, "we are not against the arrival of the AVE, but to come as a product and consider whether with the arrival of the AVE are still keeping the commuter trains, and if you arrive in Murcia sooner.

These are the approaches that we make as a federation. "

Rodriguez has also expressed that we should not talk about the AVE, but rather urban development solutions in Cartagena.
