The Night of the Museums returns to Cartagena with more activities than ever (18/05/2018)

On Saturday, May 19 will be the Night of Museums, more than 200 free activities to bring culture to neighbors and visitors of the municipality and commemorate the International Day of Museums, held on Friday May 18.

On this tenth birthday of the event, there are some news regarding previous years.

The Basilica of Charity, will open its doors for the first time to show its historical, sculptural and pictorial heritage.

In addition, Carthaginians and Romans will set up an exhibition with 20 tents in the Port of Cartagena, where they will tell the story and the current situation of the festivities, as well as present their poster for this year.

Among the more than 200 scheduled activities, the 21 routes divided into morning and afternoon hours, which have already hung the 'full' sign, stand out;

the 52 guided visits and the 12 children's workshops.

Thus, the participants in this day of culture will be able to attend microteatros, silent movies, street animations;

dance and concerts.

Also on this occasion is also celebrated the third edition of the Urban Nigth CT contest.

In the field of exhibitions, the Mural XxX stands out, which will be held at the Byzantine Wall, from 8:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. and the Live Painting, 'Once Upon a Time', which can be seen at the Town Hall, in the same schedule and the Fireworks Show, which will close these activities in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento, at 01:30 hours.

A total of 20 concerts are the backbone of the Night of Museums program in the musical field, among them the public can enjoy the activity 'Music and Poetry' that will host the National Museum of Underwater Archeology (ARQUA), from 9:30 a.m. 10:30 pm and the Symphonic Rap concert, at the Historical Military Museum, in the Artillery Park, at 11:30 p.m.

NIGHT BUSES OF THE MUSEUMS

On the occasion of the celebration of the Night of Museums, the transport company Alsa, in collaboration with the City of Cartagena, will offer from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 a.m., every 15 minutes, a circular service from the Museum. Municipal Archeology to the Glass Museum.

With the objective that the largest possible number of people can participate in this day in which culture will take to the streets of Cartagena, transportation routes have increased.

The circular service will take place at the roundabout on Ramón y Cajal Street, stopping at Plaza Heroes de Cavite and Plaza Almirante Bastarreche, until finishing in front of the FAVCAC, in Santa Lucía, from where it will return again to the starting point.

In addition, bus lines 1, 2, 4, 5, 6 and 7 will have an extraordinary uninterrupted schedule from 20:00 to 02:30 hours on this great night.

The price of this service will be only € 1 and with your purchase you can access, without additional cost, buses throughout the period of service.

The buses belonging to this service will wear on their identification badges the name of the cultural event "Night of the Museums".

SPECIAL DEVICE OF THE LOCAL POLICE

The Local Police of Cartagena will establish a special security device for the celebration of the Night of the Museums, on Saturday, May 19, which will guarantee a fixed permanence of the agents in the areas where the organized events will be held and especially in the pedestrian areas of the Historic District of the city, where the influx of thousands of people is expected.

TRAFFIC CUT

With this motive the city center will be closed to traffic from 18:00 hours.

For this, the opportune signage will be placed in Juan XXIII square, Ángel Bruna street, corner with San Juan street and Gisbert street with San Diego street.
