Special campaign of traffic of the Local Police against the consumption of alcohol and drugs at the wheel (09/05/2018)

The Local Police will carry out between 10 and 13 May a campaign of surveillance and control of alcohol and narcotics during driving in the municipality of Cartagena.

It must be remembered that the Road Safety Act is very strict regarding the consumption of narcotics, which is why it prohibits driving with the presence of drugs in the body, although substances that are used under medical prescription and for therapeutic purposes are excluded.

On the other hand, the Criminal Code provides for drivers who circulate under the influence of alcoholic beverages, toxic drugs, narcotic drugs or psychotropic substances, prison terms of three to six months, a fine of six to twelve months or work for the benefit of the community. from thirty-one to ninety days, and, in any case, the deprivation of the right to drive motor vehicles and mopeds for more than one and up to four years.

Failure to comply with the regulations applicable to the generic and specific maximum limits of alcohol permitted during driving is classified as a serious or very serious offense and involves withdrawal of the driving license and imprisonment, if applicable.

Alcohol is present as a concurrent or trigger factor in one third of fatal accidents.

Its presence in driving, depending on its rate, multiplies between 2 and 15 the risk of suffering an accident.
