SODICAR celebrates its 35th anniversary with a program on sports, heart, monitoring and Diabetes (09/05/2018)

The Diabetes Society of Cartagena and its Region (Sodicar) will hold the XXXV Edition of Conferences, Talks and Workshops of the association from May 14 to 16 in the Assembly Hall of the Caja Mediterráneo Foundation, which this Thursday, May 10 celebrates its 35th anniversary

The act of presentation, which took place today, Wednesday, May 9, was attended by the mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, who was accompanied by the president of SODICAR, María Dolores García Ros.

The mayor has taken advantage of his intervention to highlight his work with families affected by diabetes, since SODICAR is a meeting point of orientation and information, which has allowed "to improve the lives of hundreds of people and their families" , Castejón added.

He also affirmed that one of the most remarkable activities carried out by the organization is the visit to the families that are in the hospitals because one of their children has "debuted" in diabetes at a young age.

Finally, he noted that it is expected that in the region of Cartagena there are 30,000 people with diabetes, of which 13,000 are unaware, while emphasizing that type 2 diabetes can be prevented by maintaining a healthy lifestyle with healthy eating and sport.

For her part, María Dolores García narrated how 35 years ago several families of children with diabetes who had just received a diagnosis treated as an isolated case met at a time when even doctors did not know much about the pathology.

He also said that on Monday, May 14, after the inauguration in which the mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, will be the conference 'Continuous monitoring of glucose, a giant step in the control of Type Diabetes I 'that will expose the diabetologist and pediatric endocrine Raquel Barrio.

On Tuesday, May 15, the lectures 'De corazón, cuida tu diabetes', by the cardiologist José García, from the Hospital de Santa Lucía will be held;

and 'How to act in front of a cardiac arrest', in charge of the specialist in Intensive Medicine of the Hospital of Santa Lucía, Lola Rodríguez.

The turn of the sport will arrive on Wednesday May 16, when the Spanish Champion of Decathlon, Vicente Guardiola;

and the Heptathlon Junior Spanish Champion, Sergio Jornet, will talk about 'Diabetes and Sports'.
