â— The training presents a partial amendment to the PGE to rehabilitate El Atalayón, Castillitos and Santa Ana-Santa Florentina and endows with 6 million the Office of Climate Change and the Law of Biodiversity

â— "We want Cartagena to consolidate as a tourist, heritage and cultural reference for the Region and the entire Mediterranean Arc," says deputy José Luis Martínez

Citizens has introduced a partial amendment in the General State Budgets that allocates one million euros to the rehabilitation and enhancement of the coastal batteries and fortresses of Cartagena and its district.

"We make useful policy and we continue working for the Region, contributing an important investment for a strategic sector for the Region, such as tourism," said deputy Miguel Garaulet in the presentation of this initiative, accompanied by also Congressman José Luis Martínez and the spokesman of the municipal group of Cs in Cartagena, Manuel Padín.

"Cartagena is for us the tourist capital of the Mediterranean, and we want it to consolidate as an engine of economic development and creation of employment and wealth. There is an enormous heritage potential in the Region to make it more attractive, and in that sense the old belt strengths and batteries of the coast of Cartagena and its coastline should become an attraction, aimed at deseasonalizing and promoting a high-level cultural tourism, linked to heritage, "said Garaulet.

The 88th amendment to the Royal Investments and Multiannual Programming Annex of the PGEs, intends "the restoration of the former coastal military batteries, for cultural, tourist and scientific use".

According to Garaulet, "the main fortresses benefited would be those of El Atalayón, Castillitos and Santa Ana-Santa Florentina, which would be added to the Fort of Christmas, which is already available as Interpretation Center of the tourist consortium Puerto de Culturas.

We are talking about an addition to the 5.6 million tourists who visit the Region and an investment that creates wealth, economic activity and jobs ", added the orange congressman.

To the three mentioned batteries could be added in the recovery project also those of Roldán, Cenizas, Torre de Navidad, La Chapa and La Podadera, among others.

"These monuments must be consolidated, which now suffer water leaks and beams oxidation, among other damages," said Congressman Martinez.

For its part, the spokesman of the Municipal Group of Citizens in Cartagena, Manuel Padín, said that "I was tired of hearing for years how the PP and the PSOE announced again and again their intentions to culturally and touristically exploit these key locations for our development, to then do nothing ".

The spokesman of the orange training considers that "decades have been lost to enhance the wealth of these heritage resources."

Padín considers his recovery a first step to start working for the declaration of Cartagena as a World Heritage Site

Climate change and biodiversity

In addition to this initiative, the Citizens' parliamentary group has also managed to include two amendments "that are going to have a lot of impact in our Region, such as those related to providing the Office of Climate Change with 6 million euros and one million to support the application of the Biodiversity Law ", highlighted José Luis Martínez.

"With these funds, strategies can be developed to improve waste management, water purification, curb uncontrolled landfills or delve into solutions for contamination by slurry and other elements.

Spain now has more than 30 warnings from Europe in this regard, and these laws and the funds with which we endow them want to reverse this trend and move forward in favor of, for example, the recovery of the Mar Menor and compliance with agreements. of Paris ", pointed out the congressman of Cs.

"Whenever there is an environmental component, the PP shuffles, but we have achieved that this concern of Cs for climate change or the maintenance of biodiversity have budgetary support," Martinez said.
