The Mayor, Pilar Barreiro, and Council Member of Finance, Jose Cabezas, presented this morning at the media Extraordinary Austerity Plan that will be reflected in municipal budgets in 2010, which begin to be processed next week.

These measures will make savings of 4,759,467 euros and will involve, inter alia, the reduction of salary to the council, reducing the allocations of political groups and overtime for officers and publicity items and protocol and the freezing of the job and hiring staff.

As stated by the mayor these measures continue those already taken in September 2008 when she started the first signs of economic crisis and the municipal government adopted a plan of adjustment to reduce spending and address the reduction in revenue for municipal coffers .

And then froze the salaries of members of the corporation and executives, we applied a cost-cutting plan in overtime, ceremonial and representative care, advertising and propaganda and energy, among others.

Barreiro said that this plan of adjustment was effective, then resulted in savings of between 1.5 and 2 million euros, but at the moment of aggravation of the situation was insufficient and it was necessary to give a further twist municipal spending.

The specific measures announced this morning by the mayor shall comprise:

- Lowering the salaries do municipal corporation and political office between 7% and 9% by the Royal Decree approved by the Government of Spain.

- Reduction of 30% allocations to local political groups.

- Reduced costs by 61.6% protocol.

- Cutting funds intended for publicity and advertising a 51.09%.

- Reduced overtime expense a 52.74% in the year 2009 were reduced by 30%.

- Freezing the Municipal Public Employment Offer.

- It limits the maximum extension of active duty until age 70 as the temporary except in urgent cases.

- Reduced power consumption 11.05%.

Barreiro noted in conclusion that the extraordinary measures of austerity will not stay here as it is currently doing a study to assess the removal of certain bodies and municipal boards do not affect the development of municipal work.

Gratuities (overtime): 917,200 euros

Councillors and senior salary: 77,000 euros

Audiovisual Training Centre: 500,000 euros

Assignments political groups: 35,800 euros
