The Archaeological Museum exhibits a dozen new pieces in the Museum Day (18/05/2010)

The Municipal Archaeological Museum of Castro Enrique Escudero celebrates the International Museum Day, and he does exhibit a score of pieces salvaged from its funds, which will soon move into the permanent collection.

These parts, as explained Museum Director Maria Comas, are findings from the excavations have been carried out in the historic old city, among which the centuries funerary VI and VII of the necropolis located in the University District, a Roman mortar, a pot of bronze or a fragment of foot-century sculpture I.

There are also very significant pieces of modern and contemporary, such as an escutcheon (central part of the shield) of marble Royal Military Order of Carlos III, pots of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, and fragments of tile Old Cathedral .

Finally, Maria Comas noted that one of the new exhibits have been placed outside the museum because of its size, since it is a travertine pedestal of an equestrian statue dedicated to Cayo Laetilia magistrate after his death, a piece is part of the Roman forum of Carthago Nova.

Among the activities marking the Day of Museums, the Archaeological Museum held a tribute in recognition of Guides volunteers who unselfishly cooperate with the center.
