The Socialists have warned that "the property kept dry the salt marsh Marchamalo" (18/05/2010)

Following numerous complaints from residents of La Manga who reported suffering from extreme dryness Marchamalo SALINAS (environmental enclave declared a Site of Community Importance (SCI), Special Protection Area (SPA), Specially Protected Area of Importance in Mediterranean (SPAMI) and Wetland of International Importance (RAMSAR), the Socialists have been able to personally verify that more than half of the salt ponds that form are completely dry, unlike anything previously seen, with the consequent danger affection for the many bird colonies, and for the already impaired habitat remains suffering for too many years by the continued neglect of its current owners and the regional administration responsible for its conservation.

According to Salvador Martínez, social responsibility in the area, <the state of deep neglect is allowing the landscape of the Salt Marchamalo, despite being recognized as internationally important and the most important figures in environmental protection, deterioration every day, so much so that the neighbors are those who report recently that the water has disappeared from almost all the ponds like never>.

The Socialists expressed ignore the true intentions of the current owners, even if it is because it will start again the extraction of salt accumulated in the funds of the pools after so many years without doing it, but what they claim is the immediate personación inspectors of the Ministry in order to avoid irreparable damage to an ecosystem so sensitive.

Similarly, the Socialists denounced the constant increase in traffic that travels all the time the narrow road that crosses the wetland, especially since the recent construction of the roundabout that connects directly-way shuttle-the Gran Via area Nursery to finally join the highway through Las Salinas (as a secondary artery), something completely forbidden by law as shown by the signs of the wetland.

For Martinez, the construction of the last round is doing a disservice to the maintenance of the unique habitat of Marchamalo, since there are already several vehicles that have been injured on that stretch of road inside the large number of vehicles including trucks, at all times rely on this artery out of La Manga.

In this sense it has claimed the City of Cartagena, which regulates the traffic immediately and proposed secondary road driving ban by the wetlands of all types of motor vehicles, leaving only the exceptional environment for the enjoyment of pedestrians and cyclists, may be used in emergencies by ambulance, fire or police.
