The mayor, concerned about the future of Navantia (06/05/2010)

The decision of the public company Navantia to terminate contracts with subsidiary companies working in the Great Submarine Galerna Carena, S-71, due to the cessation of such work, according to the company, by default by the Ministry of Defence has provoked the indignation of the mayor who, in his capacity as a Member of Congress by the Partido Popular, has filed a barrage of questions directed to both Defence and Industry to give an explanation of this decision.

The situation is serious from the standpoint of labor, and which endangers the viability of these small businesses and their employees and assistants, worst of all, it has been decided overnight and without a single explanation no one Navantia or the Ministry of Defence has contacted me to inform me about what is happening and this is something that concerns me as mayor and as a member of the committee of mayors in support of the shipyard, said Pilar Barreiro.

The mayor wants concrete numbers and book writing: how much is the debt of Defense with the public company, how does this affect the template Navantia, what measures will be taken from the Ministries of Defense and Industry, will keep Siroco work on the submarine S-72 planned for 2010 in Cartagena, what will happen to the procurement schedules for the Series 80, which will ultimately be the future of Navantia in Cartagena, and in Ferrol, Puerto Real .

There is something else, as Barreiro, and it is critical that this situation may also affect the future of the submarine weapon in Spain because, at present, Defence has only two operational submarines guarding our shores, they will need to enter your Gran Carena review but, if the government can not afford it, we'll no submarines, with international repercussions that entails.

Finally, the Mayor expressed his outrage at the false appearance of Secretary of State for Defence last March, asserting that the work of the Great Carena S-71 does not in danger, would continue to completion in 2011 and contracts with subsidiary companies will also be guaranteed until 2012.

Given these statements also need to explain.
