The Government approves emergency works to repair the boardwalk Cabo de Palos (Murcia), for a total of 416,190 euros (06/03/2010)

The Government delegate, Rafael González Tovar, has indicated in its meeting yesterday, the Council of Ministers has taken account of the emergency works to repair the seafront of Levante beach in Cabo Palos, in the municipality of Cartagena (Murcia), amounting to 416,190 euros.

The works, basically consist of the demolition of the damaged areas and removal of damaged facilities, erection of concrete wall (excavation, foundation and slabs) and the construction of a new ramp and stairs, repair of damaged boardwalk area and protection with ladder and the contribution of sand.

The Coastal Authority in Murcia informed the Department of Sustainability of the Coast and the Sea, which the storms of the past 8 to 11 January that affected the Levante beach in Cabo de Palos, produced the inclination of the precast concrete walls, earth retention, rupture of the ramp / stairs, as well as damage to the promenade, in the northwest corner of the beach, which affects a length of 100 meters, tipping and shift the seafront in the damaged area, resulting in danger to users and outbuildings.

Accordingly, the MARM considered absolutely necessary to undertake the repair works as an emergency to avoid the risk and danger involved in maintaining the current status of the affected areas, whose immediate consequence was the loss of stability to the structures of walls producing the same pitch and the imminent risk of running across the walk concerned.
