José Miguel de Miguel is the prototype of post-war amateur photographer: well versed in the art, fine positivism and assiduous Valencia Photographic Association.

With this path you would expect from him a work full of topics or an obsession for making those beautiful pictures that won the competitions.

And while it is undeniable that overturned on the field and won the great recognition of the time, had a personal virtue and creative to print a special character all his work: an innate sense of humor.

A naive and lively humor that runs throughout his work: the case of his master almost cinematic stage effects (initiation, 1959), which is often at the edge of the exaggerated, not daring to overtake (Portrait of a wedding, 1967) .

His shots off a perfectly exaggerated result of the construction of the compositions: his son, wife and friends collaborated to recreate a round shots that add a modern point and distance to a work that otherwise would border on the cliché.

Candid humor coexists with that sly look that masterfully sums up the titles of photographs as the last refuge, 1968, dirty tricks, 1954 or preferential Tribune, 1958, in which realizes a mouth that goes far beyond mere captions .

Another major focus of attention was the story in the manner of the decisive moment with a look that performed well intentioned, yet critical, to the reality of his time.

Interestingly, the position from his bourgeois mentality conveys a look at the fifties and sixties complementary to that of his contemporary photographers, much more critical and aware of the renewal movements photography.

In this line has pictures compelling as The Joy of Living, 1966, the title of this exhibition, along with countless photographs of children (who always devoted special attention) or recurring contrasts between young and adults (Imitation , 1970).

The work of the Cartagena based in Valencia do not forget some corners of their homeland and return to us valuable insight we now recognize as a classic of our contemporary photography.

All works in this exhibition belong to the collection of the Foundation Photo Colectania, a private nonprofit that aims to disseminate their photography and collecting.
