INTERNATIONAL DAY OF THE CHILD

In 1956 the UN General Assembly recommended that all countries institute a Universal Children's Day, which would be devoted to brotherhood and understanding among children around the world and would go to activities by promoting the welfare of children in the world.

November 20 marks the date that the General Assembly adopted the Declaration on the Rights of the Child in 1959 and the Convention on the Rights of the Child in 1989.

Therefore, on November 20 has become the Universal Children's Day and Girls.

It is over ten years since the adoption of the Convention and all countries (except USA and Somalia) have ratified it, making it the instrument of Human Rights widely endorsed in the history of mankind.

The Preamble to the Convention on the Rights of the Child:

- Reaffirms the need to provide children with special care and assistance because of their vulnerability

- Underlines in a special way:

1.

the primary responsibility of the family with respect to protection and assistance

2.

the need for legal protection and legal status of children not

3.

the importance of respecting the cultural values of the community of the boy or girl

4.
