Valcárcel: "Murcia is the community that invests in public health infrastructure" (18/11/2009)

With the opening of the new centers will double the number of hospital beds in the area of Cartagena and Mar Menor

With the opening of the new hospital, the new area of Cartagena, not the 100,000 people who will become the new area of Mar Menor, will become the only staffed by two general hospitals in operation: the Santa Maria del Rosell Hospital and the new Hospital of Cartagena.

The area between the two centers have over 900 beds to serve the entire population of the region.

Currently, the area of Cartagena and the surrounding area has 347 beds Rosell, 238 beds and 100 beds Naval de los Arcos, a total of 685 to serve 376,206 people.

With the doubling of the area, Cartagena will have 328 beds and 633 new beds Rosell new center: 961 beds to serve 276,759 people, 100,000 less than make up the new area of the Mar Menor, which will have 314 beds to meet those 100,000 inhabitants.

Both areas will have of 1,275 beds, compared to the 685 current beds, which will nearly double the number of hospital beds in the area.

The head of Murcia, accompanied by the Minister of Health, María Ángeles Palacios, toured the site of the new health center, which has been designed to meet the needs of the 276,759 inhabitants of the municipalities of Cartagena, Fuente Alamo, Mazarron and Union.

New Hospital in Cartagena

The new Hospital of Cartagena, whose budget work amounts to more than 96 million euros, will have all the specialized services and will feature the latest technology.

The new hospital will have two linear accelerators, devices that complement those installed in the Hospital Universitario Virgen de la Arrixaca, so that from its launch any user of the Region will have to be referred to other regions for treatment radiotherapy.

The new center will have a new Burns Unit, will be available at Plastic Surgery, Peripheral Vascular Surgery also with a new catheterization laboratory with all its strength for intervention, so this service is configured as a regional reference.

Medical diagnostic equipment and advanced treatment

Equipping the new hospital will allow general way of incorporating medical diagnostic equipment and advanced treatment, assuming that a qualitative leap in the quality of assistance provided to users.

By way of example is that the new hospital will be integrated operating rooms that will allow communication of image and data not only with any part of the hospital but the world in real time through the network.

It will also have gamma cameras for nuclear medicine studies, with a new vascular arch Catheterization Unit, which is added to the currently existing, two new MRI equipment, two new teams Computed Tomography (CT) technology, new technologically advanced radiology equipment and a team of Interventional Radiology.

With the opening of the New Hospital of Cartagena, as the president said, is improved considerably the quality of care in the area, as this infrastructure has been designed with all the health innovations.

Outpatient services are completed for all specialties and include up to 30 pre-admission beds.

The new hospital has been located in an area of the city of Cartagena is easily accessible to all users of the health area, and has more than 1,700 parking spaces.

The center is also equipped with advanced centralized management system for a more effective and efficient use of energy, noting, inter alia, the management of the water cycle, solar energy use and waste management and classification.
