One hundred pieces show the main findings of the windlass (02/11/2009)

The city regained, opens its doors in the city of Cartagena, with a selection of the hundred most significant archaeological, results of recent excavations at the hill of the windlass, covered by the draft Archaeological Park windlass.

It is organized by the Directorate General of Fine Arts and Cultural Heritage of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Region of Murcia and has the support of the City of Cartagena, Cartagena Puerto de Culturas consortium and the Foundation of the Roman Theatre of Cartagena.

The two years of study and research on the hill, are demonstrating that the windlass is an archaeological gold mine, and it is destined to become the main center for interpreting the early history of Cartagena, the Mayor announced Cartagena, in the presentation of the exhibition, which has been accompanied by the Minister of Culture and Tourism, Pedro Alberto Cruz, as well as those responsible for this show, José Miguel Noguera José María Madrid Celdrán and balance.

The archaeological work undertaken in recent years have offered the possibility of knowing a city and urban landscapes, so far unknown and difficult to predict, hence the title chosen, Arx Asdrubalis.

This exhibition shows the architecture and furnishings of ancient times, wrapping the Cartagena Visiting the High Roman Empire, has highlighted the Minister of Culture and Tourism.

The frame chosen to show the exhibition have been the temporary exhibition rooms of the Museo del Teatro Romano and the palace hall, two concerning cultural heritage of the present Cartagena, which is located just 50 meters from each other.

The exhibition shows pieces, among which Tuscan capitals, Ionic and Corinthian, sculptures, items, paintings, coins, small tools and pottery related to everyday life, accompanied by a large group of virtual recreations and interactive learning resources, making attractive, enjoyable and understandable documented archaeological reality.

In the room of the Town Hall, offers a tour of the History of Archaeology (Section 1) of this hill on which Hasdrubal built magnificent palaces.

Presents a small selection of pieces of proving the statutory program magneficiencia forum linked to the colonial and the importance of the city.

In the temporary exhibition hall of the Museo del Teatro Romano discusses two major building block found in the original: the Baths of the Forum, with its unique and impressive scene remains of paintings and sculptures, which emphasizes the representation of a gaming scene and anfiteatrales cornucopia exceptional, and the Atrium Building, maybe a college venue for banquets triclinares, probably related to the Eastern cults that were so ingrained in the city.

Access to the exhibition is free and is open until April 11, 2009.

Visiting hours are Tuesday to Saturday from 10.00 hours to 18.00 hours and losdomingos, between the hours of 10.00 hours to 14 hours.

The official opening will be this afternoon at 20.00 hours, and will be chaired by the Minister of Culture and Tourism, Pedro Alberto Cruz and the Mayor of Cartagena, Pilar Barreiro, at a ceremony to be held in the Museo del Teatro Romano.

ARCHAEOLOGICAL PARK PROJECT REEL

The exhibition covers the activities of the Archaeological proyectoParque windlass, which includes the excavation, study and appreciation of a wide area of 20,000 m2 located in the old town of Cartagena, which in two years, has studied 3500 m2 of land, with very positive results, which show a first-rate information for the knowledge of the physiognomy and the historical sequence of Cartagena, particularly in the period between the VII century BC.

The future park is bordered on the north wall of the Dean and environment protection, to the south by the Balcones Blue Street, east down the street Adarve, where were found the remains of the Curia now kept in the basement of the Health Center , whose first floor is located a future interpretive center, and west by the Baths of the Forum (old Honda street)

For the implementation and execution of this project, the Consejerñia of Culture and Tourism has provided the amount of 1,450,000 euros in 2008-2009, for archaeological research, and 2,000,000 euros for the construction a cover to protect the archaeological remains.
