Stimulation of older animals in El Algar (20/10/2009)

On 22 October, the Institute of Social Services City of Cartagena takes animal learning program aimed at older people, Day Care Center in El Algar.

Equine and Canine Therapy uses animals for medical purposes since antiquity, the Greeks gave rides to lift the mood of depressed people.

In the 60's, several studies were conducted to see the influences of the animals mental health.

Furthermore, there are other assisted therapy with dolphins, horses, dogs, cats, and other farm animals.

Animals foster communication, the evocation of recent events, relaxing effects, which helps older people maintain physical contact and affection, improving their quality of life.

Contact with animals can make these people talk, laugh and show affection.

This activity is the actions carried out within the Senior Program, whose objectives are:

- Enhance self-esteem, improve your mood, communication, expression of feelings, emotions and thoughts.

- To develop the initiative of participation, promote relationships, help you relax, exercise your memory, develop spatial intelligence and guidance.

- Rescuing people from their isolation.
