The Government delegate rule out the presence of a mother ship with boats (06/10/2009)

And it highlights the performance and operational coordination of control of the sea and the coastline of the Region

The Government delegate, Rafael González Tovar, has ruled this morning that there, as mentioned by some means, of a mother ship to approach the coast the boats intercepted in recent days.

González Tovar insisted on relating the concentration of more boats in a few dates with "favorable weather conditions for sailing that have occurred in them, as opposed to the bad weather of previous days, and added that we must also take into account the recent celebration of Ramadan and the incidence of this in the daily activities of Muslims.

The Government delegate was speaking on the occasion of the meeting held this morning in Cartagena with the various bodies that make up the operational surveillance of the sea and coastline to illegal entry attempts in Spain: National Police, Civil Guard, Marine Rescue, Maritime, Port Authority, Borders Agency (FRONTEX) and the Red Cross.

On the device, González Tovar said that "it's working perfectly" and stressed "the great coordination of all its components."

It has also indicated that it has as primary objectives, avoid risks to people, coming to rescue many of the boats at sea, provide immigrants needing humanitarian assistance (clothing, food and health) and identify those to start the process of returning to their countries of origin.

On the other hand, pointed out that the Mediterranean coast of Murcia, Almeria and Alicante is the Spanish zone closer to the coast of Algeria, so that some of these boats have it as a logical destination.

Likewise, Gonzalez Tovar said that "the SIVE is proving very useful for detecting the arrival of boats, but in no way a panacea against it, since the problem is in origin."

"While there are situations of need are able to bring someone to risk his life in an adventure that usually ends with a return to his country, nothing can be done from here to prevent such attempts," he added.

Finally, the delegate of the Government has highlighted the excellent cooperation of Algeria in Spain consulted with the administrative processes of return of illegal immigrants into the country.
