The counselor Bascuñana visiting La Manga for the children in care of Children's Home (12/08/2009)

The Minister of Social Policy, Women and Migration, Joaquín Bascuñana, today visited the 28 juveniles supervised by the autonomous community who spend their summer holidays in the center that are in La Manga The Sisters of Charity Home in charge of Cartagena's Children found in these children.

This is a small group, 13 girls and 15 boys, who performed during the months of leisure activities in La Manga.

Are under six years whose custody has been withdrawn from their families for different situations of abuse, neglect or abuse.

The counselor, as it did last week in Lo Pagan, visited the small, highlighted the work of the Daughters of Charity and explained that over the past year 2008 a total of 72 children were treated at the Center Home Children and until last July, 64 children have been treated.

The Ministry of Social Policy, Women and Immigration has in force an agreement with the Daughters of Charity to care for children, amounting to 2.5 million euros.

As for the characteristics of children, Bascuñana said that "of the 28 children, five were foreigners, from Morocco, Bolivia, Colombia and the United Kingdom and the rest are from different parts of the Region."

He added, "eight of these little ones are special needs children."

Currently, the Department has protected 1,268 children, of whom 273 are in schools, 15 in the program Kangaroo, 241 unrelated host families, 674 for extended family and 65 are unaccompanied minors.
