Smothering fertilizer fire in a building on La Palma (20/07/2009)

Fire Staff Park City Council last night Cartagena got quell a fire that originated from unknown causes in sacks of fertilizer stacked in a warehouse located outside La Palma.

The fire caused heavy smoke as a preventive measure that required the evacuation of three nearby homes and cut traffic on the road between the towns of La Palma Pozo Estrecho, whose margins are the ship.

The fire occurred about 20.30 hours and the prompt action of firefighters, with experience in such incidents, as happened a few years ago in fertilizers, made the situation will be controlled and extinguished about three hours later.

The work focused on the segmentation of the vessel and removing the bags with a shovel, to prevent the fire from spreading to other storage areas, mainly at the end of the ship where they were toxic and could have resulted from burning dangerous.

The fire affected about 150 square meters which burned 30 tons of fertilizer were used 1,000 liters of water and foam in their extinction.

One of the strands involved was intoxicated by the smoke and was treated in an ambulance.

In the tasks involving 15 firefighters, six policemen, four local policemen and four toilets.
