Day Care Center of Sorrows will be completed in nine months (15/07/2009)

Mayor Pilar Barreiro, along with the Minister for Social Policy, Women and Immigration Bascuñana Joaquin Garcia, Senior Director General Paloma Recio Bernardez, and the councilman of Social Care, Antonio Calderon have placed this morning the first stone of the Centre Day Care in Los Dolores, whose execution time will be 9 months.

The center will be built on a municipal plot of about 1,110 meters square, located at the confluence of the Santiago Street, San Pedro and Lima.

The building will have a floor area of 635 square meters and everything you need for socio needs of older people in their day stays.

The work was awarded to the contractor, Construction Leandro Vidal, who has a nine-month term for execution, with a budget allocation of 413,567.67 euros, on a tender budget of 630,583.14 euros, financed by the Ministry of Social Policy, Women and Migration in the Autonomous Community of Murcia and the city of Cartagena.

The center will initially 20 seats for the elderly and 5 for Alzheimer's patients, expandable to 30 seats and with the possibility of raising an additional floor, all people with reduced autonomy for daily activities and gaps in your situation.

This service is offered as a real alternative to residential housing and institutionalization, thereby easing the burden of dependency for the family unit.

The mayor pointed out that this is an area of Los Dolores, with a high population density, and therefore a high demand service.

In addition, the center will have the resources necessary for basic personal needs and socio-therapeutic and older people affected by different degrees of dependence.

For its part, the Minister noted that the Region of Murcia there are a thousand service users in day rooms, of which 300 are people with Alzheimer's.

In Cartagena, he said, are taking 70 people in day-stay services, half of them also with Alzheimer's.

Given this need, the counselor noted, are being built day-stay centers not only in city centers but also in neighborhoods and villages.
