A Lifting up for the Spanish Flag and the Salute to the Victims of Terrorism (02/04/2009)

You are now ready for the Saturday 4 April to carry out the lifting of the Spanish flag, with the participation of members of the Army, Air and Navy, as well as local police, National Police and Civil Guard, and Act of Remembrance of Victims of Terrorism, sponsored by the City of Cartagena, with the discovery of the sculpture The Zulo, Victor Ochoa, on the esplanade of the Heroes of Cavite and Santiago de Cuba, at the Port of Cartagena.

This morning we have proceeded to place the sculpture at the site chosen for its location and tested both events so that everything is ready on Saturday.

At seven o'clock in the afternoon, with the assistance of the first regional authorities, led by President Ramón Luis Valcárcel Community and Regional Assembly President Francisco Celdran, the Government Delegate, Rafael González Tovar, the Mayor, Pilar Barreiro, and the Maritime Action Admiral chief, Emilio José Nieto Manso, will begin hoisting the national flag.

The Maritime Action Admiral will head symbolic delivery of the flag to the mayor, who will then be deployed and carried by members of the Army, Navy and Air and effective local police in Cartagena, National Police and Civil Guard.

During the hoisting of the logo, eighty square meters on a mast 25 meters high, ring the National Anthem played by the Honors Band-third of the Levant, while the battery salvos of 73 Anti-Aircraft Regiment Atillería, shoot the 21-gun salute, using four pieces settled in the Lighthouse Marina Club de Regatas.

A company composed of sections Artillery Regiment, Marine Corps, General Air Force Academy and Civil Guard will complete the military parade that will pay official honors.

CEREMONY HONORING VICTIMS OF TERRORISM

After this homage to the flag and following the withdrawal of troops will take place on the discovery of the memorial to the victims of terrorism: a sculpture by artist Victor Ochoa, called the Zulo.

Chairing this event will be the president of the Autonomous Community, Ramón Luis Valcárcel, the President of the Aasamblea, Francisco Celcrán, the government delegate in the region, Rafael González Tovar, the Mayor of Cartagena, Pilar Barreiro, and the vice president of the Association Victims of Terrorism, Angeles Pedraza.

In a conspicuous place near the presidency will be the Municipal Corporation of Cartagena, which sponsored the tribute, with the three spokespersons of the city and the three live excaldes democratic era: Juan Martínez Simón, Antonio Vallejo and Jose Antonio Alonso .

Also attend two dozen members of the association of victims of terrorism.

Pilar Barreiro will be responsible for providing the monument to the victims and discuss the meaning of this act for the city of Cartagena.

Following its discovery with the President of the Autonomous Region and Vice President of AVT, the latter, Angeles Pedraza, give thanks, concludes the speeches, the president, Ramón Luis Valcárcel.

Both acts have confirmed their attendance other civil and military authorities of the Region and in Cartagena, among which are the president of the UPCT, Members of Congress and the Regional Assembly, general managers and mayors of other municipalities.

The intention was that the events have a popular character.

For this we have chosen a day and time in which Cartagena traditionally take to the streets to coincide with the start of Holy Week and have enabled public areas close to the flag and the memorial so they can continue with all detail the development of both acts.

THE ZULO

Zulo sculpture is a human figure, built in hollow bronze with 4.80 meters height and 2 tons in weight, to be located in front of the flag, on the west end of the esplanade.

The author, Victor Ochoa, who also attend the ceremony, specializes in monumental sculpture.

In their hands have other works as the figure Don Juan de Borbon is located in the Park of Nations or the face of the Nobel Prize Severo Ochoa, in the Molecular Biology Centre of the University.

It also has several statues of the king in bronze, one located in the Palacio de Oriente and the other in the former post office.

His work is dedicated to sculpture in the Auditorio Alfredo Kraus named after him in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, as well as dedicated to Camilo Jose Cela, which was inaugurated by the Kings in the Complutense University.

There are his works in public spaces in Valencia, Oviedo, Bilbao, Sevilla, United States and Puerto Rico.
