The Community will support the provision of access to the archaeological park of the windlass (28/03/2009)

The Ministry of Public Works and Planning, through the Directorate General of Housing and Architecture, will subsidize the provision of access facilities on the archaeological park located next to the new health center The turnstile in the town of Cartagena, as part of the subsidies from the regional government granted to local government for the development of actions in architecture.

"Through the design of this area, as well as enable future access to the health center, a space is reevaluated in the public interest, social and cultural, as occurs in the windlass with archaeological remains," said CEO Housing and Architecture in the Region of Murcia, Mark Nogueroles.

The Department funded a total of 520,248 euros the adequacy of the environment and access to new health center, while the City of Cartagena will provide 355,018 euros.

Through these improvements will provide a platform area on excavations, which will safeguard the archaeological and continue their study.

This action, which run the municipality of Cartagena, is part of the remodeling of the windlass, which includes the works of urbanization of the area through which new roads are built along the line of blue balconies and parallel to San Vicente , joining the Plaza López Pinto with the new health center.

The large regional archaeological park

The turnstile forms one of the major archaeological parks in the country and a leading example of conservation of remains in the city center.

In the first phase of excavation work was done on 3,000 of the 20,000 square meters that make up the set, in which are located remains dating to the third century BC.

For the past year working on excavations on the slope of the hill of the windlass funded regional, worth more than a million euros, provided by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.

During this year will proceed to the second phase of excavations focused on the Roman baths.
