Cartagena has joined the campaign against child poverty (23/03/2009)

The stadium has hosted municipal Cartagonova weekend Stop Child Poverty campaign, Spain Plan, an initiative launched by this organization to reduce the extreme poverty of children and improve their living conditions through of an education free from violence.

The truck show with a picture of Iker Casillas and several children's areas has stayed in Cartagena on Saturday and Sunday, from 12 to 21 hours.

The presentation of the campaign in Cartagena had the institutional support of Antonio Calderon, Social Care Councillor of the City of Cartagena, and Alonso Gómez, Councillor for Sports.

Furthermore, in the event were Margaret Dominguez, European swimming champion in long distance and best sportsman of the year in the Region of Murcia, and Juanmi, former goalkeeper of the Spanish and Real Murcia.

Dozens of children from Cartagena also joined the act of Plan.

During the event, both the authorities of Cartagena athletes became gatekeepers solidarity 'Plan in a gesture of commitment to the work that this organization develops in the field of education.

Precisely the goal of Stop tackle child poverty is one of the main factors that generate poverty: lack of quality education and violence in schools.

To this end, the campaign will tour 22 cities in 12 Spanish autonomous communities for eight weeks to find gatekeepers solidarity 'who want to support Iker Casillas to eradicate school violence.

Learn Without Fear report addresses the three areas where violence occurs in the classroom: sexual harassment (abuse and rape in exchange for privileges and good grades), corporal punishment (hitting, kicking and humiliation of teachers to students) and bullying ( bullying).

Girls are more likely to be victims of sexual violence, while boys are more affected by corporal punishment.

Several people in the world of culture, sport and the media have already joined this initiative Plan.

Among them are athletes David Meca, Emilio Sanchez Vicario, Manolo Sanchis, Rafael Martin Vazquez, Ramon Fuentes presenters, Mario Picazo, Ana García Siñeriz and Jorge Fernandez, the model Eugenia Silva and Laura Sanchez, Blanca Romero and actresses Melanie Olivares , and actor José Sacristán, among others.

Plan is an international organization focused on promoting the rights of the child, non-profit and not religious or political affiliation, who currently works in 66 countries, its main objective to improve the living conditions of children of the developing countries and promote their rights and interests.

Currently developing more than 9,000 projects have benefited about three and a half million families in 20,000 communities belonging to 49 developing countries.

Plan has over 8,000 employees, of whom 90% work directly in cooperation programs, and more than 60,000 volunteers who contribute to the objectives of the organization.

Plan was born in Spain in 1937 and is a consultative member of the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations since 1981.

Its accounts are audited by PricewaterhouseCoopers, and comply with the principles of transparency of the Loyalty Foundation.
