The Cartagena in Tarragona in addition to recognition of the architect Victor Beltrí (09/03/2009)

Cartagenero Cultural Circle of Tarragona, iCUE, wanted to join the acts of recognition that Cartagena is doing in memory of Victor Beltrí.

For this reason, a few days ago held a conference on 'Eclectic Modernist architecture of Cartagena "in Bofarull Palau de Reus, given by Ana Belén Rojo Ojados, a graduate in art history, and second-generation member of the Association founded by the Cartagena absent.

With this conference we have tried to gloss over the figure of Beltrí, seeking union between Cartagena and Tarragona, as the iconic architect born in Tortosa.

At the beginning of the act, led by President of the Circle, Juan García Sáez, and presented by the Vocal Release, Juan García González, Catalan Girona Francesca associated Circle and married to a Cartagena, spoke briefly to the audience the first thirty and three years of life Beltrí, age at which was located in Cartagena, making it the most important part of his work.

Among the data presented at the conference on Beltrí Victor emphasizes that was born on April 16, 1862 in Tortosa, the son of José María Beltrí Balilla and Maria del Carmen Roqueta Estrampes, both dedicated to artistic professions.

Influenced by them, he campaigned heavily in youth cultural movements of their city.

He moved to Barcelona in 1880, and made concurrent enrollment in Architecture, Mathematics, Physics, Natural, and School of Fine Arts.

Hence, great technical and artistic sensibility when designing buildings, together with the entry into the sources of Catalan and European modernism.

It paid for his studies by working as a draftsman, where professionals reached its highest.

It is known that worked, or kept brief contacts with the famous Antonio Gaudi, though it is widely studied to what degree was made that collaboration.

Studies finished in 1886, returned to Tortosa, where, Municipal Architect signed several projects on bridges, roads, management of extensions and other works of public utility.

Did not overlook the fundamental vocation of art, embodied in the marketplace, Courts and Banco de Tortosa, as well as the Palacio de Montagut, using traditional materials and their iron, glass and ceramics.

In 1890, political changes in his resignation at city hall, and went to Gandia.

He played there also the municipal court work, but while important, were not as bright as previous Tortosa.

Reappears with the force of which we witness in Cartagena, at the age of 33, putting his main work there.

It is possible that political problems will push to move away from Catalonia and otherwise, could have joined the group of architects who raised their modernist buildings in Catalonia, especially Barcelona and Reus, hometown of Antonio Gaudí.

In the latter city, led by patrons highly enriched with oil and hazelnut crop, which favored a modernism that stood up to Barcelona in some buildings, which reinforces the assumption that tried to get away from Catalonia, and specifically in Reus, a town near to Tortosa.

Identical situation to Reus was in Cartagena, corresponding here mercenazgo the rich mining companies.

It is conceivable that Beltrí left behind the possible settlement in Reus, and chose the remote Cartagena to be fully realized as an architect and artist.

Married Maria Teresa Vilaseca Zaneti, which had four children, Carmen, José Luis, Matilde and Guillermo.
