Councillor for Sports, Alonso Gomez, accompanied by José Miguel Martínez Castejon, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Circuito de Cartagena, Juan Jose Rios, director of the Circuito de Cartagena, José Manuel Pérez Vilella, President of the Federation of Motor Sports Region of Murcia, José Miguel Martínez-Mena Martínez, President of the Federation Motoclismo Murcia Region, presented today, after a meeting with the Mayor, Pilar Barreiro, recent developments in relation to the circuit and the schedule of activities planned for 2009.

In this respect, Alonso Gómez has stressed the importance that is taking Cartagena circuit speed, not only at sports but also tourism, as it continues the influx of people who use these facilities and, consequently, are housed, eat and shop in the city, becoming an engine for tourism.

As recounted the circuit manager, José Miguel Martínez Castejon, five years ago began a project to update the circuit, reaching the 3 million investment, which has led to these facilities have recently received international approval Spanish becoming the fifth circuit that acquires this status.

Now the idea is to change the location of these sporting facilities and move them 5 miles away from its population, as the city grows towards it is to avoid the discomfort caused by the noise of the engines.

For this, the City Council and the General Plan has provided the reclassification of land in the present circuit, which could be built about 600 homes, and the sale of the facility owners can buy land and build a far more modern tracks .

NEW PROGRAMMING

Under the timetable of programmed activities in the racing circuit in 2009, stands as a novelty, for the first time in Spain, is organizing the Festival of Motoring, a kind of trade show exhibitors, testing, road safety activities for children and promotion of grassroots sport in order to bring a little circuit to citizens.

In this line, has also prepared an open day at which interested parties may access the track with his own car and ride around the circuit.

Throughout 2009, providing a total of 16 tests, three of them international, highlighting the Classic Endurance International Championship Night to be held in September.
