The Musical Archive of the Region will have the legacy of composer Benito Cartagena Laurent (18/01/2009)

The Musical Archive of Murcia will be the musical legacy of composer Laurent Benito Cartagena by the agreement between the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the composer's family Cartagena.

His legacy consists of scores and recordings, among other things, shall be deposited in the Music Documentation Centre to ensure its conservation, study and dissemination.

Among the outstanding collection of works that make up this legacy, we would highlight two operas, with text by Luis Federico Viudes, the entire orchestral work, a concerto for guitar and orchestra, band music, a quartet of guitars, original manuscripts arrangements of light music, music for TV, NO-DO, general announcements and handwritten sheet music of several films he signed in his career as 'A dog in orbit' of 1966.

In this assignment agreement was present the composer's widow, Pilar Aguirregaviria and his nephew, Gabriel Lauret concert violinist and a member of the quartet 'Saravasti'.

The scores are now deposited in the Regional Archives, where they can be consulted by anyone interested.

Musical Documentation Center of the Region of Murcia, located in the Regional Archive, aims to collect, recover, conserve, restore and disseminate, in a systematic way, the musicological documentary heritage of the Region of Murcia.

Known as a member of the Generation of 50, with composers such as Christopher Halffter and Luis de Pablo, and author of well known pieces such as' Suite Cartagena. "

In 1980 he was hired to conduct the Orquesta Sinfónica Municipal de Valencia.

Later he led the RTVE Orchestra and the cities of Barcelona, Bilbao and Oviedo and musical director of Teatro de la Zarzuela in Madrid.

He was also director of the Orchestra of Los Angeles, the Leningrad Conservatory, the orchestra of La Scala in Milan and Berlin Symphony.

For twelve years he directed the orchestra of the Ballet of Antonio and several years, the Columbia label.

With Luis Federico Viudes (libretto) composed the score for the operetta 'Virginia Virginis ", a parody of the French magazine of the century with operatic music, which premiered in 2003 at the Centro Cultural de la Villa de Madrid by the Company Spanish Lyric, under the musical direction and scenic Ortega and Antonio Pascual Amengual, respectively.

Also composed pieces for numerous associations, guilds Easter and institutions across Murcia.

One of the last works was "Estampa Lorca ', dedicated in 2002 to the municipal band music in its 75 th Lorca.
