More than 80,000 people have visited the Museum and the Roman Theatre since its opening in July (30/12/2008)

The Roman Theatre of Cartagena and its museum has been the most visited archaeological site in the city since its opening last July 11, 2009.

In just six months have passed more than 80,000 people for their facilities.

In particular, from the opening date until the last week of December have visited the Museum and the Teatro Romano de Cartagena 80,180 people, of which 68,455 have been visiting with manure, 8,700 in Open Days and 3,025 for promotion.

The Mayor, Pilar Barreiro, stressed that these figures reflect average daily visitors in excess of 1,400 people, which shows the great success of this monumental and talks about the importance of theater to promote the importance of Cartagena as a destination tourism.

Barreiro was keen to stress that visitors to the theater and museum are rated unanimously with the sheer quality that has made the project and the customer service staff collected daily compliments from visitors by the end result of it.

Most visitors have been moved to the guides and staff to the public congratulations for the restoration work done and for the excellent presentation of the remains from the Museum Theatre.

During the summer months much of the public who visited this tourist and cultural group comes from the national level, 48%, especially in Catalonia, Valencia, Alicante, Almeria, Murcia and Madrid.

Also 36% of visitors is of European origin: French, English, Portuguese, German and Italian.

Museum Manager, Elena Ruiz Valdez, disclosed that has been outstanding the number of students who have visited the Museum and Theatre during these months.

Highlights especially the visit of students from disciplines such as History, Art History, Archaeology and Architecture.

They usually make the visit without a guide and take nearly three hours to see the entire journey.

On the other hand, 95% of visitors came individually and 5% did so in groups by reservation.

In the period following the summer has been an increase in group visits, up to 56% in November.

They include the prior appointment of a regional school, but also of Albacete, Almeria and Alicante.

Among the groups, also visited the Museum several associations, among which the Associations of Friends of the Museums of Lorca and Alhama.

Also important has been the number of trips older people from towns such as Benidorm, Santa Pola, Mojacar, La Manga ...

Also noteworthy is the large number of unique visitors, 43%, mostly concentrated on weekends, when entire families from both the city and other parts of the region visit the Museum and Theater.

Between visits to promote tourism and cultural visits include events related to the Med Cup, the Board of Directors of Caja Murcia, the College of Architects of the Region of Murcia, Almería Association of Architects, the Association of Surveyors Region of Murcia, a visit by representatives of all the Academies of History of Spain and travel agencies as Murcia Tours, El Corte Ingles, RENFE UNCAVE, travel OKMadrid, Enable Tours (UK), Touring Club Italia, among others.

These figures reflect, according to Mayor Pilar Barreiro, that a commitment to cultural tourism and the recovery of assets is producing results, becoming the next few years one of the main economic engines of the city.
