The City Council asked the Q for Quality for ten beaches maintenance throughout the year (14/10/2008)

The City of Cartagena, through the Municipal Institute of Coastal Service, which is a year on, has failed to meet one of its commitments to citizenship, to have a greater presence and more human and material resources to provide a maintenance service and cleaning up our coastal beaches during the summer period and to continue this service after the end of the summer.

These improvements are those which have led to the application of quality Q for ten of our beaches (Playa de Levante, Barco Perdido, Galúa, Cala del Pino, Cavanna and La Gola in La Manga as well as Playa Honda, Mar de Cristal , Islas Menores and Cala Cortina), as announced Councillor for Infrastructure, José Vicente Albaladejo, who took stock of actions and investments of the Institute accompanied by the Director General of the Coast, Gabriel Ruiz, and the director of the Institute for Services Coastal, Ventura Valero.

Within the balance sheet, investments Albaladejo highlighted the professionalism of the lifeguards, marking the Mediterranean coast, opening a six-point handicap bathroom, improved access in Calblanque, attaining six blue flags for beaches of Cartagena, first municipality the region and second nationally in number of these badges, and layout of the network of trails.

In this regard, the council announced the creation of infrastructure for the first time a local path approved by the Federation of Mountain, with a length of seven kilometers and a half and a total of 10,000 steps, which runs through La Manga and Cabo de Palos, from Hotel Esplanade Entremares to Faro.

In terms of investment in people, are a total of 73 people employed in the summer in the three centers of the Coastal Services Institute (46 in La Manga, 16 in the Los Nietos and 11 in Isla Plana The Azohía), which is double the staff working at the beaches before the creation of the Institute.

Starting after the summer, 60 people will be responsible for maintaining the coastline (40 in La Manga, 12 grandchildren and 8 in Isla Plana) in the fourth quarter.

Keeping staff in the summer could include first responders, so that it is exploring the possibility of leaving a group to go traveling in areas with higher employment on demand, as noted by the Director of the Institute of Municipal Coastal Services, Ventura Valero.

For its part, the Director General of the Coast, Gabriel Ruiz, has made clear that despite the crisis, the will of the government team is that the Institute continues to grow, as it favors an industry that gives money to city, as is tourism.
