Lifting of blue flags in the Pine Creek, Playa Honda and Sea Glass (18/07/2008)

Today Friday, 18 July, the Coastal Services Institute of the City of Cartagena has placed three of the six blue flags awarded to the beaches of the municipality by the Association of Environmental and Consumer Education.

The successive lifted distinguishing insignia Playa Honda, for the first time, "Cala del Pino y Mar de Cristal, have been chaired by the Director General of Environmental Quality, Francisco Espejo, Councillor for Infrastructure, José Vicente Albaladejo, that of Decentralization and Health, Nicolás Ángel Bernal, and the general director of the Coastal Gabriel Ruiz.

It will be recalled this year the Region has achieved 23 blue flags, one more than in 2007.

Cartagena, with six-Mar de Cristal, Levante-Cabo de Palos, Cala Cortina, Cala del Pino, Islas Menores and Playa Honda, is the town that more flags will wear this season, followed closely by Los Alcazares, which hoisted five-Los Narejos, Manzanares, Palms, Carrion and La Concha.

In addition to the 21 beaches, the region has managed to place two marinas, Eagles and Tomás Maestre, San Javier, among the best in Spain.

Mazarrón, San Pedro, San Javier and Eagles also will wear blue flags this year.

The Blue Flag initiative has a history of more than 20 years in the development of sustainability on the coast, through the Association of Environmental and Consumer Education, an NGO dependent on the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE).

Account, inter alia, with the support of the Dirección General de Costas, the General Secretariat of Tourism and the Ministry of Health, in addition to the regions, through the environmental, health, and tourism ports.
