The improvement measures in the Valley of tailings will involve an investment of 257 million over the next six years (17/07/2008)

The Coordinating Actions in the Valley of tailings, which met today under the chairmanship of Minister of Public Works, Housing and Transport, José Ballesta, studied the final document which provides a total of 43 measures to improve safety, accessibility, mobility internally and externally, infrastructure and equipment in that industrial center, and will involve a total investment of 257.6 million euros over the next six years.

In this third meeting of the Steering Group, formed last February, was defined the outcome of the proceedings to be initiated in the industrial area, once studied all the proposals from its members, which have allowed the incorporation of new actions .

The final document will be sent in the coming weeks to the Governing Council.

The four main priorities are: urban planning, modernization and development of transport and communications infrastructure, development and promotion of safety and improvement and expansion of urban infrastructure and telecommunications.

Regarding the first, will develop a distribution of land occupation and for a rational and sustainable use of tailings in the Valle compatible with the development and socioeconomic and demographic in the area.

The investment amounts to EUR 73,850,000 and the approximate time of execution is 72 months.

This action is intended to have more industrial land, create a high quality technology sector serving as a gateway and image of the Valley and reserve sufficient land for future access to the new dock with the Gorguel, among others.

The second line of action concerning the modernization and development of transport infrastructure and communications, intended to bring economic development and facilitate the operations of existing economic activity.

The investment will reach 157 million euros and approximately implementation is 72 months.

For this purpose, a plan for internal mobility and accessibility to the Valley, promoting public transport, increasing the capacity of transport infrastructure that meet at the Valley, will encourage and enhance intermodality of the relationship and intercommunication of the Valley with Polygon The Camachos and pedestrian safety light, among other actions.

The third line, referring to the development and continued promotion of safety measures, has a budget of 8.7 billion euros and a period of approximately 72 months, and plans to adapt the External Emergency Plan Escombreras Valley, make periodic drills and conduct the feasibility study of a fire station itself.

The last of the main priorities for improvement and expansion of energy infrastructure, urban services and telecommunications has a budget of 18 million euros and running within about 72 months.

Through this line will be installed next-generation networks in the field of long-range telecommunications and fiber optics, as well as a line of sea water against fire, among other measures.

Immediate Actions

Of all actions, 9 have been incorporated into the contingency plan for the economic revitalization of the Region of Murcia, so that its implementation will be promoted immediately and within a maximum of five years may be a reality.

These initiatives represent an investment of 74 million euros that contributes directly to the Ministry of Works, Housing and Transport, include improving the current connection through Cabezo Valle de San Pedro, duplication of driveway section between the San Pedro dock and tailings with the construction of new tunnels, improving the connection of the N-343 with the N-345, the connection to the new dock and future Logistics Activities Zone in the Gorguel, writing the study of mobility, accessibility and safety to the Valley, the study of the transport system internal and external audiences, the study of pedestrian and a network of bike lanes, designation of areas and areas designated for parking deterrence, and layout of surrounding road sign.

The Steering Group, chaired by the Minister of Works, Housing and Transport, is composed of the secretary-general and directors-general of Roads and Transport and Urban Planning of the Ministry of Works, Housing and Transport.

Also representatives of the Ministries of Sustainable Development and Regional Planning, Economics, Business and Innovation, and Agriculture and Water.

By other authorities, involving the City of Cartagena, the State Administration and the UGT and CCOO, the Association of the Valley of tailings, the Neighborhood Association and the Consumers and Users.
