Eleven illegal immigrants intercepted near Escombreras (14/07/2008)

Civil Guard officers in Murcia have intercepted this past weekend a group of eleven immigrants who had reached the regional coastline aboard a boat.

The actions of the agents began mid-afternoon of Friday, Day 11, when a Civil Guard patrol located and arrested in the vicinity of the Repsol refinery in tailings, in the first four immigrants who were undocumented with wet clothes and with symptoms of fatigue.

These immigrants had landed earlier in the Cabo del Agua area in the municipality of Cartagena, the Spanish coast after arriving aboard a boat that was located and taken to the port of that city by a patrol of the Maritime Service praiseworthy.

Following this discovery, the Civil Guard established a search engine from the rest of the occupants of the dinghy, which resulted in the same day located and arrested five other immigrants who were also in the area of tailings.

Finally, in the early hours of Saturday morning, day 12, the Corps said agents arrested two other immigrants, who were hiding in the same area that had been located the other nine.

The detainees, who have claimed to be Algerian and were in apparent good health, have been made available to the National Police, who will process the relevant records for those returning home.
