French photographer Pierre Gonnord, exhibits his painting portraits of Gypsies in the questioning moves in the festival La Mar de Músicas (02/07/2008)

Gonnord Pierre (Paris, 1963, living in Madrid since 1988), one of the most cosmopolitan French photographers currently out in Cartagena (Palacio Molina) in the context of Section Art La Mar de Músicas.

Twelve people painting portraits of Gypsy origin, a people that has always fascinated the photographer.

His work is linked to Spain for years, has been recognized by critics as one of the most intense contemporary approaches to portraiture.

The exhibition The questioning moves may be seen from July 2 until August 29.

The exhibition has been presented this morning by the author, Pierre Gonnord, the Councillor for Culture, Rosario Montero; by Nacho Ruiz and Juana de Aizpiru the gallery.

Ruiz has defined the characters photographic Gonnord almost sculptural volumes, Pictures forthright and blunt realism, as you said Rosario Montero.

Gonnord's work focuses on the photographic portrait and runs more than a decade of psychological profiles of different human groups, this time the Gypsy.

The Frenchman is characterized to reflect humanity as an unreality built on extreme fidelity to the model, never idealized, always carefully exalted.

A series of 12 photographs, taken in the neighborhood of three thousand homes in Seville, show a tour Gonnord work in the past year, appearing as a set for the first time in Cartagena.

Through it, the author masterfully displays his deep knowledge of the portrait, often described as painting by linking them to the masters of naturalism in the seventeenth century.

Is a series of stark forthrightness in which the characters take on a sculptural volume.

The portrait is naked before the camera Gonnord, showing his emotions hidden, seeking individualism within the group, and bringing out the pride unattainable unbearable realities.

Portrays Constantine, Bernardo, the Salazares, Abel, to Manuel and Mary, Moses, Amparo, a Krystov through a deep look.

The recognition is unanimous, and their images, cut on black, and one of the tops of the portrait of the last decades worldwide.

The large format is another Gonnord resources to move the real dimensions to an artificial grandeur.

According to the author, the photographs shown in this exhibition is a story of personal relationships with his subjects, of mutual trust.

His interest in Roma now takes you to Perpignan, where he is portraying another gypsy community.

His work has been exhibited since 1998 in the gallery of Joan of Aizpuru, with which he has attended numerous fairs, ARCO and Paris Photo, and biennials worldwide.

Its collections are located in the most prestigious collections as the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia, the Maison Européene de la Photographie (Paris), Centre National des Arts Plastiques (Paris), Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago Museum of Contemporary Art Castilla León (MUSAC) León.

The recognition is unanimous, and their images, cut on black backgrounds, have gone from the initial portraits of a forceful hard to match, the nuances that reflect ethnic groups such as gypsies, beggars and the elderly.

Aizpiru during the presentation highlighted the enormous energy projects currently Cartagena, an energy that has pleasantly surprised at what has been his first visit to the port city.

Cartagena is required, he said, because of its history to bring something great to culture and art, and be at the height of that cradle of civilizations that was at the time.
