Three million euros to improve the infrastructure of schools (20/06/2008)

The City School Board met yesterday Cartagena to address two main issues, the infrastructure improvement plan for schools and the choice of non-school days of the school calendar for this year 2008/09 to schools of the term municipal.

Regarding the latter issue and after discussing the various proposals, according to the general ease the workload of the longest periods of the school year, and analyzing the appropriateness of each of the selected days, was determined to be the 31 October 2008, January 7, 2009 and February 23, 2009.

Also, the House Municipal School Board was aware of the plan of improvement and renovation of school infrastructure that has been conducted throughout the school year, culminating with the expected summer work.

Councillor for Education, Josefa Maroto, reported that as a result of the visits you made during the course of Cartagena public schools, we have undertaken until April 30 a total of 233 actions to improve facilities and that will be undertaken from May 1 until the beginning of next year a further 61 performances.

All this will involve a total investment of 600,000 euros, and its lower complexity, are carried out during term time course as it does not affect the school dynamics.

In addition, the municipal school infrastructure plan will culminate with other important works to be carried out after the completion of the course and throughout the summer, in three blocks, representing a total investment of EUR 2,227,053.39:

Actions to be carried out in 12 public schools by agreement between the municipality and the Ministry of Education, Science and Research, CARM, whose investment amounts to EUR 1,484,121.21.

Actions to be undertaken through grants from the Service to Diversity in the CARM, whose call has submitted 12 projects for the removal of architectural barriers in two public schools, worth a total of 242,764.45 euros.

The works themselves take the city of Cartagena, which account for more than 17 performances in 15 public schools, for a total of 459,160.56 euros.

To this we must add other three projects in two public schools, submitted to the Ministry of Education that the same is carried out the execution of works amounting to EUR 41,007.17.

Josefa Maroto directors informed in detail of the various actions to be carried out, highlighting the most relevant for each of them, and warning that, at least three performances-of greater complexity and size, and longer recruitment process - may not be completed in early September, completed during the summer, the foundation work and structure of the new School of Political Science modules

Mediterranean (La Manga), Santa Florentina (La Palma) and Virgen de Begońa (Tentegorra).

Among the works to be undertaken this summer include the renovation and expansion of CP San Isidro Labrador, Los Belones, taking advantage of unused space and redistributing them properly to get a new kindergarten classroom, the refurbishment of the toilets, a education resource room, a small motor skills room and new access to the library, getting progressively eliminating portable classrooms installed in this school.

Also, and in view of a later agreement, it could become an old wardrobe into disuse in multipurpose room or auditorium, so that the infrastructure of San Isidro Labrador CP would be fully refurbished.

In connection with the CP Félix Rodríguez de la Fuente, Los Nietos, Councilwoman informed of a forthcoming visit by the same makers of the Directorate General of Department of the Autonomous Region to finalize the most suitable proposals on the construction of new school.

About CP Antonio Arevalo of Cartagena, the city has asked the Ministry of Education the final formalization of the transfer of the College and its incorporation into the Municipal Property Inventory, a tightly regulated so as to make maintenance and monitoring.

It also informed the EMC that will shortly be proposed to the Head of School to divest two of its remaining classrooms Regional Center of Adult Education, to destine them to their teaching, since it is saturated and needs an extension of its dependencies.

However, Marotta said, this assignment does not imply that the CP Antonio Arévalo will cease to function as a center and Primary Education, ending the existing rumors about a possible closing.

Finally, the Municipal School Board was informed of some of the actions that the Ministry of Education will undertake in various Secondary Schools in the municipality, whose total investment amounts, in addition to 1,549,000 euros, while these works are not municipal competition.
