The Local Government Board has approved in its meeting this morning, the start of procedures for the appointment of two public spaces in San Félix and El Algar, which until now had no name.
The first is the park across from the local office of the district of San Felix, on the street Maestra María Muñoz, who has been nominated to carry the name of Diego Calvo Clemente.
Born in 1924, Diego Calvo began working at the Port of Cartagena, where he spent his entire working life and where he retired with the rank of foreman.
He was nicknamed 'Bastarreche' for his strong resemblance to the Admiral.
In 1983 he was named president of the Neighborhood Association of San Felix, a post he was for ten years during which the current clubhouse opened in the neighborhood, and the doctor's office, an infirmary and a bowling green .
Diego Calvo was heavily involved in the celebrations of the Barrio de San Felix, collaborating in the creation of bubbles carnival troupe.
The second nomination is the Day Care Center of El Algar, with the name of Alfonso Escamez Liarte.
Born in Rincon de San Ginés, Alfonso Escamez spent his childhood in Santa Lucia and Portman, until he moved to El Algar, where he lived for six decades.
He was a member of the Celebration Committee and active member of the Local Association for the Fight against Cancer.
After retirement, he was a partner in the Pensioner's home, where he served as vice president of the Board for three years and president of it for twelve.
One of their main demands was the construction of this Day Care Centre, situated at Piñero.
Both names have been requested by neighborhood representatives of the localities under Regulation Municipal Honors and Awards.
